Have you ever...

If I had to pull anything in "code red" I'd want it to be the biggest gun I could pull. I dont see why you would want a .32 over a .45 in a hypathetical senerio, or any of that matter.

I think that any person who has ever truly needed a gun has wished intensely at the moment of need that they had a more powerful gun instead of the one in their hands--regardless of whether what they have in their hands at that moment is a .44 magnum, a 25 Auto or a .30 caliber rifle.

Nope, though I have wished for a Metal Storm when the critter in the bushes that I'd assumed was an injured raccoon snorted like a feral hog. That's the last time I took a .22 pistol to check on an unidentified animal, too...now it's a .357 or a shotgun.

If I ever have to draw my carry pistol in a real defensive situation, the first thing that's going to cross my mind is that I wish I had, that day, carried my AR-15 carbine on one shoulder and my Rem 870 shotgun on the other.

If we have never wished we had pulled a 32 instead of a 1911 45...

Why do people carry a 32 in their pocket and leave their 45 at home and thinked they're armed ?

That is like wearing a seat belt that is only rated to hold a 50 pound child when we know we weigh 200 pounds.

Because a small pistol weighing under a pound is far easier to carry. Given that the average person will carry his pistol a lot and never shoot it in self-defense, and given that the vast majority of successful self-defense gun uses don't even involve firing the gun it's reasonable to take ease of carry into account and to weight that factor pretty heavily when considering what to carry.

Because they ARE armed. As mentioned already, over 90% of successful self-defense gun uses don't even require that the gun be fired. A large percentage of the remaining cases are resolved successfully when the gun is fired regardless of whether the attacker is injured severely or not. And even the pocket pistols can be effective in killing and/or stopping an attacker when that becomes necessary. It's undeniable that a pocket pistol caliber gives up something in performance compared to the service pistol calibers but a gun, ANY gun is far, FAR better than no gun at all and can definitely be used successfully to save your life, snide witticisms aside.

No, it's not like using an under-rated seatbelt at all. Unlike an underrated seatbelt which would break and utterly fail to protect the person wearing it, pocket pistols can be (and have frequently been) used successfully in self-defense.

Have you ever pulled your 1911 45 in Code Red and wished you had your 32 pocket pistol instead ?

Nope.

I've never carried my 1911. I oftentimes carry a .32 auto, though. And I HAVE been in situations where I realized that I wish I had that little .32 handy when I wasn't carrying it. ;)

I get it now. I'm am in the process of rebuliding my collection but at its height I had guns of all sorts of calibers to choose from, two being 1911's. Which gun did I almost always have on me all the time? A S&W 342 loaded with non plus P hydra's. I was not the most powerful gun but I didnt need to be wearing a belt to holster it. I could deply it faster than any of my semi autos and I was pretty accurate with it too.

Different strokes and all of that. If you feel that nothing less than your 1911 will protect you, then carry it with you everywhere. I doubt I'll ever need to fire my .32 in anger, to be honest. But if I did, I'd have it there ready to roll. Any mugger or psycho I'm likely to mix it up with will probably be calmed down a whole lot by a couple of well-placed slugs. Even small ones.

For my situation, the little .32 serves well. I also have a S&W 642 snub that I carry when the wardrobe allows. I very rarely find mysef dressed in a manner that would allow my 1911 to be concealed. Here in Texas, it tends to be REALLY HOT for months on end. And the winters are very mild. Heavy jackets or other cover garments get very little use. YMMV.

If I end up hiking through grizzly territory, even my 357 wouldn't be enough. And neither would my 1911.

But that .32 is always in style when I'm out and about in town.

Some people carry a .32, because they know they can't handle, or accurately shoot a bigger gun. If I were an 80 year old women of 110 lbs., I'd feel a whole lot better with my little .32 than nothing at all, or with a gun that was too big and heavy for me to do anything with.
We all would like to think that when the moment of truth arrives, we'll whip out ol'wonder and blaze the other guy into a red mist and a whimper. In reality, most of us will never have to face that day, but for those that do and can't handle a big gun, a "little".32 will probably feel a whole lot better than getting killed or raped.

There are obviously folks who cannot handle a 45 1911 and they should carry what they're comfortable with.

There are obviously some situations where a 45 1911 would be very difficult to keep concealed in daily use.

There are folks who do not feel the 45 1911 is the best defense weapon and choose to carry a S&W 29.

But when those are not the case, and when one can handle the 45, how would one make the decision that today I will carry the 45 and tomorrow I will settle for something less ?

Would changing what you felt you needed from day to day be evidence that you were looking for trouble on some days but not on others ?
