Have you ever sold or traded a gun and ended up regretting it?

I have always took alot of time and effort to pick out and buy a firearm . So I miss everyone I have traded off . That was when I was young and impulsive , I hav'nt traded a gun in 30 plus years but still buy one from time to time . I have never sold one of my personal firearms .

I can think of three that I would like to have back. First is a WWII era Walther PP. I believe that it was made around 1943. It was supposed to be a war bring back, but the guy "misplaced" the paperwork. Next was a Dan Wesson 32 magnum. It just had the one barrel, but it was complete with box and in very good shape. Last was a Russian Makarov. I bought it during the time period when you couldn't throw a stick without hitting a $175 Makarov. I sold it for what I had in it, because I needed the cash and thought I could buy one back anytime. A few years later I looked into buying one and that same gun looks like it would cost me $350 now.

I've sold or traded a bunch. Each time the money went for better things or a better gun was acquired and I've never lost a minutes sleep over any of them. There have been 2-3 that were eventually replaced, but I never regretted selling/trading them after I parted with them.

There are a few that I would like to have back, but really none that I regret selling or trading. As others have said, anything that I've let go went for something I wanted more and more often that not, something of higher value.

Traded my first gun to purchase another at an LGS. S&W Model 10. 38 special +P. It was a LEO trade in when I bought it back in 2011. Pristine condition, tight, the bluing did not have one scratch on it! Bought it for $250.00 and now when I look for another one, like other posters have said, the price has gone up.
That is one trade I really regret. Dealer only gave me 40 % of what he said it would sell for. Never again...:(

My son knows he will inherit all of my firearms. Last year I got laid off one morning and later that same day took an AR-15 in to another LGS for consignment. I never really shot it much but my son was heartbroken. It sold in one week. No regrets though, I used the money to help pay for a vacation we had already planned before I lost my job. :)

With the collection I have now, I hope I never have to sell another one.

Each firearm has a specific purpose / application, so if I traded or sold one I definitely would try to replace it with the same caliber.

Almost every damn time. :(

Although... I'm happy with my current consolidated collection, it all makes sense with minimal waste, overlap or guns that have no purpose.
Still miss many of those that I let go of.. particularly the PM9

Jeez

Who hasn't? I usually have an particular reason when I shell out for a gun, and likely as not, that circumstance doesn't change quickly or often. Honestly, I've not sold or traded too many over the years. I buy'em cause I want'em, and still do.

But....I've sold two model 94 Wins over the years, the logic being I could always get another. Needed some cash, both times, for wedding and later, a house downpayment. Now I'm without, and the prices are nuts to a guy who never paid over $100 dollars for one. One had the best trigger I ever felt on a lever.

Traded a 6" M27 Smith....gorgeous....but I wanted a M29 to deer hunt with, I was big into the idea of pistol hunting. Got the M29, and traded it for a Mini-30 at the peak of the assault weapons frenzy in the Clinton years. I actually shoot and use the Mini more than either of the big N frames, but they were fine revolvers for sure. I'd special ordered the M27. The pistol hunting bug passed when I got crazy over bow hunting, and still am.

No. I've sold about 9 guns in my life. I don't miss any of them.

Here's a list of most of the guns that I've sold:

INA nickel 38 special (got what I paid for it and nothing special about this gun)
Open Bolt M10 carbine (got plenty of money for it)
Old Chinese SKS (got more than enough money for it at the time)
S&W Model 10 38 special (Nice gun, finish was a little worn - got more than I paid for it)
Remington 700 22-250 (shot the heck out of it, then had no more use for it - got at least what I paid for it)
Taurus PT-99 (Broke -reparable but left gun in 80% condition - traded it +$$$ for Smith 659
H&R .32 Self-Loader - traded it for an Colt SP1 Carbine - still happy with that trade)
Ruger 10-22 (beat up and I was done with it).

(probably 1 or two more that I can't even rembember)

SW 651 - even though I didn't like the 22 mag round through it - they went up in value. I sold it for a loss as I need the money then.

OH, well! :(

I'm not a sentimental guy

i don't regret any of my sales, which turns out to be quite a few. I buy guns that I want, shoot it and when I get bored with it or want to free up cash for something else, I part ways.

I've sold the first guns given to me by my folks. The first guns I purchased myself. The guns I inherited form my dad. Guns I inherited form my brother in law. My first CCW. My first, and 2nd 1911's. I've sold rifles, shot guns, pistols, revolvers, bbguns, pelet guns..

Right now, I'm selling all my "high capacity" firearms as I'm planning a move to a less enlightened location. I'm keeping a couple of 1911's and. S&W model 19.

I understand the concept of keeping things and I really appreciate seeing others collections, but I've never been an avid collector of anything. Mostly I figure I have too much stuff anyway.

Just an ordnary looking rifle/nothing special until you shot it!

Post 64 Winchester model 70 push feed 243Win, the most accurate rifle I've ever owned, I couldn't get past it was a push feed action. The rifle would cut tiny clover leaf groups often the holes would be interlocking 1/4"-3/8" 100yd, I've thought about this rifle many many times over the years.. Sigh!! William

I sure wish I had my first BB Pistol (copy of a Colt SAA 45) that my folks gave to me. They weren't much for guns, and it was a big deal for them to give me that one when I was about 13. It wasn't the one I wanted - springer action rather than the CO2 I really wanted. And, while I did have fun with it, at some point I probably took it apart and junked it. Boy, am I sorry I did that...I can't get that gun back or the person who gave it to me. I will keep the Walther .380 that was given to my dad by a friend, even though my dad didn't like guns. I inherited it and I'll keep it - still, it will never mean as much to me as the one picked out for me and given to me by my folks.

Twice. One was an old Nazi-marked Walther P-38 that was just about the most accurate autoloader I ever owned. Could routinely hit a 12" disc blade hung on a tree at 100 yds. However, it had a rough chamber and sometimes I would literally have to shoot it to unload it because I couldn't manually extract the chambered cartridge. Wish now I'd had the chamber lapped and kept it.

The other was a WWII era Mauser HSc in .32 ACP. Sweet little carry piece, but the sear began wearing to the point it would sometimes double. Wish now I'd had a gunsmith fix it. :(
