Hating my Ruger Mk III Hunter

jimbob,

I wish you lived closer so you could see for yourself how tight this gun is. I swear I have stronger than average hands and I could not pull out the mainspring housing without a hammer and a punch. Then removing the barrel assembly by hand was also impossible. My gun is TIGHT!

Some may say the 1911 comes apart very easily. I have a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special that you have to have a bushing wrench. Those guns are built TIGHT. Compared to mil-spec 1911s, they might be a breeze to disassemble without tools.

I hope that explains it.

I have two MkIIs, one is easily fitting back together and the other is such a tight lower to upper fit that I need a mallet. Or rather needed, I barely ever shoot those things anymore since I have much nicer rimfire handguns.

Maybe the tightness adds to the accuracy of these guns. I don't mind using the Tandemkross tool and my rubber mallet to get my Mark III apart. Of course I do like taking my Mark IV apart a lot better.

I have four Rugers, Mk ii and Mk iii. My first was a Target model, Mk iii. It was stiff to take down and I botched up the reassembly. Took it to my local gunsmith, he took a large mallet and loosened what I had jammed. Then, he showed me the right way to do things, gratis.

Since then the manual makes perfect sense to me. I should mentioned at one time in my life I wrote technical manuals.

I've had no problems field stripping my MKIIs. Can dissemble/reassemble in minutes. It's REALLY easy once you get used to it.
