Hate the billboard on the GP-100 barrel? Sand it off. Pics...

Beautiful work. It really is too bad that Ruger makes such a mess of an otherwise attractive product.

When I bought it brand new, under the glass I found several pin point rust spots. So I started to do some research on what i could do to remove the rust.
Removing existing rust spots is a good start, but you can help slow down the return of any future rust by removing the free iron on the surface of the stainless through passivation.

Passivation is the chemical removal of free iron off of the surface of stainless steel, typically through the use of mild acids, traditionally nitric, though some shops now use citric acid. The iron on the surface reacts with and is removed by the acid, leaving behind a surface on which it is much more difficult for rust to find a foothold.

(There's a good description of passivation at this link.)

Wow... the passivation thing is interesting... didn't know a thing about it. I was surprised to find rust spots on a brand new stainless Ruger, but what the heck! It did take a magnifying glass to find it, but it was there for sure. I guess I just learned never to assume there's no rust on stainless.

Bob... P-shop would have been a good way to envision how the gun would look without the lettering without actually removing it! But I'm glad I did it for real instead of just in pics. The gun feels so butter soft now.... can't keep my hands off of it!

DHart! gun looks nice! you did a good job making the Ruger look better. Some people think I'm crazy when I use ScotchBrite on my stainless guns. It does a nice job. But you said ScotchBITE? is that something different?

Impact... oh that's just my nickname for it.... the pads that BITE into steel, ScotchBITE! They do an amazing job on stainless :D

That turned out real nice DHart. I believe you just enhanced the value of that revolver!

I can't stand all the legal print on Ruger revolvers. Legalease is for manuals, not gun barrels.

What would be cool, is to go a step further now and break all the sharp edges on the gun, giving it a "melted" effect, like the Kimber CDP series pistols.

Drifter... funny thing is ... there really isn't any legalese or anything really useful on the barrel anyway... in all those words the gist of it is this: "Read the owner's manual before using." That's IT! All the rest is company name, blah, blah, blah. No use for it in my opinion. Of course, these new fangled revolvers are so complicated to shoot, one really needs the owner's manual to understand how to shoot the dang things! ;) :D
