Beautiful work. It really is too bad that Ruger makes such a mess of an otherwise attractive product.
Passivation is the chemical removal of free iron off of the surface of stainless steel, typically through the use of mild acids, traditionally nitric, though some shops now use citric acid. The iron on the surface reacts with and is removed by the acid, leaving behind a surface on which it is much more difficult for rust to find a foothold.

Removing existing rust spots is a good start, but you can help slow down the return of any future rust by removing the free iron on the surface of the stainless through passivation.When I bought it brand new, under the glass I found several pin point rust spots. So I started to do some research on what i could do to remove the rust.
