Has our Homeland Security been seriously compromised ?

So what you are telling me is that the USCG and other federal/port agencies personally check every single container's contents that arrive in the U.S. ?

Would you send you family to live in the UAE?

MoW... I see trusting the control of ANY operations of our ports to another nation as being a security issue. The Coast Guard and Port Authority might not be able to search all packages, but at least I know that all the routines, etc, are being directed by Americans with American interests in mind.

The fact that any control is being given to a middle-eastern nation is all the worse to me. Let's face it -- most of the middle east doesn't like us, and putting control of ports any closer to them than it already is isn't exactly idea of the year.

That, and Bush's idea of border security down south... Undermanned, underfunded...

Oh, and don't forget -- your private phone calls aren't private anymore (albeit, that's not a Bush-caused loss of liberty -- he's just an ardent supporter of various 'intellegence gathering')...

The fact is, it scares me to see how much Bush has tried to open our borders while also trying to spy on citizens everywhere.

It's the same company that has been in place--it's only owned by UAE. They have nothing to do with port security.
Your right most of the middle east doesn't like us--however UAE isn't 1---yet. what are you going to tell this reputable company---sorry great company but since your from UAE you are out based on nothing else. Talk about creating another enemy? Then they say---fine get your ships out of our ports and good luck against the rest of the middle east. In fact they are hated by the middle east for ALLOWING our ships there!

Eghad--So what you are telling me is that the USCG and other federal/port agencies personally check every single container's contents that arrive in the U.S. ?

THey do not check every--more like 7%--but it is completly up to them--has nothing to do with this or any other company. AGAIN---doesn't matter whether or not they are checked HERE--IF a nuke got here it's too late. They have to be stopped overseas.
As for us being better on port security--absolutely we need to improve but this has nothing to do with this contracted company!

I'd trust Britain more than the UAE -- our allies over in Dubai aren't exactly "friends" by any means. They may not be on a level with Saudi Arabia, but they're still not the cleanest of allies. Their gov't helped ship Pakistani nuclear technology over to Iran, Libya, and North Korea. According to the UN, the UAE gov't's had a place in the nuclear black market (though to their credit, they've lessened their role recently with the UN's help).

UAE's banks also handled a large percentage of the money involved in 9/11... And though I doubt any of the banks realised what they were doing untill it was too late, they weren't exactly helpful when we wanted to track Bin Laden's accounts afterward (according to the US Treasury Department, that is).

Now... Another thing... Even though there were "investigations" made by our new CARC friends, they have yet to say anything of what those "investigations" entailed. They just exist. And they just say that it's safe... We should trust them though, afterall, the investigations we know near nothing about are obviously infalliable. Right? *Sarcasm.*

Anyways... That's just what I think of this whole thing. The UAE (primarily Dubai) helps the little guy get the nukes, banks for terror, doesn't help us -- their allied buddies -- in tracking down the folks who fly planes into our buildings, and then we're supposed to let them take over a company overseeing our ports without blinking, all because they're our allies on paper and they gave us a flimsy promise that they won't replace too much of the management in place with their own folks...

Homeland?

You have to think back and realize who coined the phrase Homeland Security. It was Hitler, and from what we have seen so far our homeland has not been secured! They are not idiots, they are carrying out an agenda. Tasering 5th graders and grandmas, patting down the busty ones at the airport and cameras everywhere. It's all about track, trace and TAX. Why else would they want to know where we are at all times. Your meter is now running folks.

the problem is not so much the deal with an 'Arab'

country but that we made the deal with any other country. Why would we do this? Like all the banks that are changing names and trading ownership... I think too many folks are after the big dollars so they can have a house down in the Bahamas. Somebodies are makeing big money.

In approving the $6.8 billion purchase, the administration chose not to require state-owned Dubai Ports World to keep copies of its business records on U.S. soil, where they would be subject to orders by American courts. It also did not require the company to designate an American citizen to accommodate requests by the government.

Outside legal experts said such obligations are routinely attached to U.S. approvals of foreign sales in other industries.

I amazed by the comments that think this does nothing to compromise the security of our country even further.

The ports are difficult enough to keep secure now. A doumentary after 9/11 showed it to be an almost impossible task. This can only make it worse.

I can't see how UAE ownership of a company operating the ports can compromise port security anymore than it already is.

The same labor unions will still be working the ports and fleecing their employers. The Coast Guard will still conduct their operations as usual as well as Customs and other LE agencies that normally operate in ports.

I think it's much ado about nothing.

We're in more danger because of open borders and an administration that is carrying on the "make nice" policies of the Klinton administration regarding illegals.
