Has anyone here actually "worn out" a handgun?

.

Rumor has it that both Perazzi and Krieghoff have had over one million rounds fired in individual guns in registered competition and those guns are still going.

Probably replaced a spring or two over the million rounds.

An FIE Titan II in 22LR. One of my first guns when I was still very new to guns. Shot about 10,000 rounds through it. The back of the frame (rail guide) started to peen. Sold it for what I'd paid for it...crazy...

I had a Glock (perfection?) 26 that developed a crack in the frame. From the top of the locking block pin through to the top.

To their credit, customer service was great. They replaced every part except the slide and barrel. Return was about 2 weeks.

Dauff

Yes.

I built a lightweight pseudo Commander in the late 1970s. The frame was an alloy A&R Sales frame, the rest was scrounged Colt (slide) and G.I. parts.

After several years of shooting - no idea of how many rounds - the frame rails starting cracking away from the rear. However, I found out one afternoon when cleaning the poor darling AFTER shooting a combat match. It worked fine for the match.

I carried a Smith & Wesson Model 13 revolver as a Border Patrol Agent. I shot that gun a bunch with all sorts of loads. When the "L" frame revolvers came out, I bought a Model 581 and put the 13 into off-duty carry mode. At some point around that time, I noted the 13 was 'spitting' lead from the cylinder barrel gap. Then I noted a couple other things, like fore and aft play in the cylinder. The top strap seems to have stretched over time.

I still have both revolvers, they went too far with me to get rid of them. I might be able to have the M13 rebuilt, but I haven't done anything about it yet. At the moment, I consider it 'worn out'.

My brother wore out a barrel on a 17 Remington. He did go ahead and get a new barrel for it because he likes to shoot it so much. Those bullets are super fast and he all ways loads them hot. 4000+ FPS

*Edit: I know, this was about hand guns...

I bought a Taurus PT 100 new in 1992 and I know I've run 10,000 plus rounds thru it and all I've done was replace a broken extracter on It last year. still shoots great.

Wore out a Ruger P89 back in the mid "90's. Slide stopped cycling, then the springs ended up jamming the slide half open and would not move. It had about 8-10K rounds through it. Sent it out to Ruger and they promptly replaced the entire gun. However, I have stayed away from the auto Rugers since then.

What good do bunny fart loads do you when you need to unleash +p in a life/death situation?

They allow you to practice on the fundamentals (grip, trigger, sight alignment, etc..) without the price of "duty/SD" ammo. The Idea is to develop muscle memory.

They help when introducing a new shooter to the firearm. They are less likely to develop a flinch. Besides a "bunny fart" load could still be deadly if you hit a vital organ or CNS.

My oldest and most used pistol is a US Property 1911 made in 1918. Barrel is ugly dark and pitted

I consider it 'worn out' in a practical sense since steel doesn't improve with age and the slides were not hardened very well. But it functions just fine and groups like my Series 70 when I put a mag through it on 4 July

I wore one out just recently and it was not that hard to do.

Here are the details.

Make: Kimber Solo:D
Round Fired: Approx 375:(
Problems: Failure to extract, eject and for slide to lock back.
Travel: Three Trips to Factory:eek:
Disposition: Replaced with New Gun:confused:

I just had to do this to help vent. I went back to my old Colt Mustang.
