Has ammo availability made you change your EDC?

For the past few days I've been carrying my 3" gp100 instead my 3" 629 carry comp. The reason is... I just can't find any 44 special ammo. I do have a few boxes of 44's left, but don't want to burn through them and have none.

Anyone else come from the "carry it a lot / shoot it a lot" school who just can't do it with certain cartridges and therefore changes carry guns, even if temporary?

btw, I do plan on reloading. Unfortunately, it requires some house projects to be completed first, so it isn't a ready option.

:(

What are you talking about?

I am talking about not having enough ammo to practice with my preferred carry gun, nor having enough ammo to spontaneously go to the range with only my carried gun. So I am changing my carry piece to something I am able to feed, at least until I can get ammo for my preferred carry piece.

I was wondering if anybody else had to make a similar choice.

I'm not sure what EDC is, or most of the othe letters, EDDG BVDs AWS etc.

It America, speak spanish dammit.

Any way I carry a 642, I cast and load my ammo for it (both carry & practice), I have plenty of primers and 232 for it, I dont see changing guns in my life time.

Sorry about that...

EDC is Every Day Carry

I'm not sure about the others... though I suspect they were meant to be funny.

Quite the opposite. No .45acp's or .380s for this guy, but I do see a 44mag in my future because I already bought a few box of ammo for that 4" Redhawk.:D

No.
Of all the guns I have, the MAIN ones have lots of ammo available for them. To say I have hoarded ammo the last few years is an understatement.

The ones I don't shoot a lot, only a couple of boxes or so for each caliber.

No matter how proficient you, I or we are with our firearms, it still pays to put in good practice time. Shooting is fun. Plus, to be really fine tuned as far as speed and accuracy go, you, I or we all need to put in range time and train for different scenarios at home and any other place we may end up at.

I'm of the opinion that really good shooting is a perishable skill if we don't keep practicing. Plus, it's FUN!:) Costly, but fun.

I have always carried and shot .45 ACP. Even when there was a "shortage", I was able to find enough to go to the range whenever I wanted. I make sure I have a 1000 rounds minimum on hand and when I approach that number, I go searching for more.

What really surprises me is the definite shortage of .380. I have two boxes in my arsenal and I'm not about to shoot those until I can find some more. Got an email from a supplier the other day advising he had some by the 1000 round case. By the time I responded, it was gone. Not having .380 makes my .380 guns worthless. One is destined to be a collector's piece but the other is a decent gun that would make a BUG, but I have yet to shoot it as there is no ammo.

I have enough 9mm to keep mine fed, though I have switched my carry loads depending on what I could find.

Was doing the Hornady TAP in 124gr, but ran out of that, and unable to find more.

So switched to Federal Hydra-Shok 147gr, until I ran out of that. Well I have exactly 29 rounds of it left, (2 mags +1 for my CZ PCR)

So I got some in 124gr.

I managed to build up about 150 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense (one box at a time since it came out) but I haven't tested it in my weapons, so I'm not carrying it yet. I prefer to run at least 200 rounds through my weapon before I trust it as a carry load.

I'm back to carrying my 629. Picked up 300 rounds of 44 specials and have another 500 on the way. Even made it to the range today!

While I'm very comfortable carrying 38's, I'm far more comforted carrying 44's!

Carry what you want to carry. If you know how to shoot the weapon, you can go an awful long time without practice and still shoot. Mentally drilling with one's realistic, self defense scenarios, can be just as important as throwing rounds downfield at a target.

I agree, but you still have to test your self from time to time.:D

That's the fun part!
