it is usually the gun not the load that makes it hurt.
I have shot 1 3/8 loads out of a bad fitting shotgun and it can hurt. I fired some 3 inch 2 oz luballoys out of a plain jane 1100 that were just fine.
It is how the gun fits you, even an old superposed 3 inch with the hard plastic butt pad is not so bad when the geese are low over the dekes, but the high setters, when you have to lean back to shoot high, OWWIIEEEEEE.
