I have a Winchester 1300 w/ 3" barrel, steel is okay.

wanted to know what is by far the hardest kicking load that you guys have fired out of a 3" 12 gauge chamber?

obviously i dont want to blow my gun up so something that keeps it at a safe pressure.

sharpest most violent kick?

hardest 'push'?

thanks guys.

PS: I fired some 3" 15 pellet winchester 00 buck, after hearing all the 'nightmare stories' about 3" buckshot loads, i found it yes heavy recoil but nothing insane.

It seems like the remington buckshot and slugger 3"ers have the most recoil in my guns. I believe its called buckhammer max velocity or something to that effect. Shooting multiple slugs from the bench will give your shoulder a pretty good bruise with that stuff.

Or maybe a 2-ounce turkey load. Federal makes * CP BL PFC159 with
2 ounces at 1150 fps and a Dr. Eq. of 3.89.

I know they hurt me out of a 870 Express with the cheap factory pad on it.

Get a 3.5" the recoil it's not realy that hard, it's a littel slower but it pushing you back pretty hard

i dont have any guns currently chambered in 3 1/2"

or know anyone with the 'new' 3 1/2" chambering.

BTW a 3" shell out of a shotgun would aprox what kind of rifle caliber?

i know gun weight effects this...so i'm not looking for perfect accuracy haha

shoot about 300 2 3/4" reloads loaded hot out of a model 12, after that nothing kicks anymore. (accept for my savage 99 308 its scary)
as far as your 3" goes i think slugs would be the worst.

From my experience, the slug beats me up more than any other round..Shooting #2 out of my A5 Mag with 32 inch full is pretty mild compared to some rifles i shoot

Tops them all

Try some Sellior & Belloit 3" magnum 15 pellet 00 buck. Slugs are a pleasure to shoot after these puppies.

3.5" 2oz heavy Turkey loads will beat the living snot out of you. I've shot lots of 3" loads, and none of them compare to a 3.5" load.

I've never thought about the heaviest 3" load. I'd put my money on 3" Turkey loads or slugs.

Rifle and shotgun recoil is two different things.
I have a bolt action 300winmag it kicks hard, the recoil is snappy. Last month i went to a gunshow and i tried Thomson Conteder in 375JDJ, it's recoil was HARD but slower than the 300winmag. Then i tried T/C in .223, fast and snappy recoil but not hard.

The difference is projectile weight and muzzle velocity.
Light bullet and slow velocity = slow and light recoil (22LR)
Light bullet and high velocity = fast/snappy but light recoil (223, 22-250)
Heavy bullet and slow velocity = slow but hard recoil (45acp, black powder and shotguns)
Heavy bullet and high velocity = hard and fast recoil (300winmag, 338winmag)
If you really want something that kick fast and hard get a 460 Weatherby magnum or 50BMG

Whoever said turkey loads is right!!!

Shoot some and get back on here and enlighten us. I know I have shot many assortments of slugs and buckshot and I have only shot one turkey load (3.5 in magnum). It felt like Mike Tyson had hit me in the shoulder with a running start. I havn't shot one since.

I think I'll pass on the idea of turning my hunting shotgun into an Uber-tactical device, but thanks for the offer.

Out of my maverick the hardest kicking load I've found is Remington 3" .no4
1-7/8oz buffered magnums for turkeys.Man after shooting one of those I could not feel my arm for about a hour.Plus I made the mistake of using a Ex-Ful turkey choke.
