Handguns and Tornadoes...

The old photo albums would take priority over my guns. It's much easier to replace the steel/wood/plastic stuff...

We here in Michigan, just had a few touch downs last week with NO fatalitys, thank GOD !. I would have three to go with me and wiffie and dog,#1- Colt Detective Special, #2-my bug, Herters o/u -2 shot .38spl./.357, both can use same ammo .38spl.,#3- and last but not least, my main carry, the 1911 Colt 3" Defender. In the basement is the safe, 4'' elevated and anchored into the floor w/ gloden rod and moisture cans for the huminity, lots of ammo, thats my Wizzard of Ozz plan. But the main thing I would like to put out there is that I have three complete lists w/ serial numbers and discriptions (scopes, scratches, ID marks), of all my firearms, one list is in the houses records files, and two of my closest friends have copys which live 100+ miles appart, I hope that I'll never have to use this in any way , shape or form, and that some of this may be of some assistance to anyone out there, to save them some grief in the re-building and insureance racket, but separate riders would help the most I think ? p/s a current 1-2 yr. old Blue Book of Gun values marked withe yours in it can aid in the collection or replacment along with pictures, Hope this helps, and you never need to use any of this, as I wonce was a Scout, BE PREPAIRD, ADAPT, and OVERCOME, be safe/be wise.

15 + years

I've been saying that my entire life would fit in the cab of my truck as long as I had my JRT. I lost him to cancer a month ago. Guns? Guns my aarrshh.

I'm a little late to the party - but glad you and yours are safe.

Everything stays in the safes except my Smith CQB and Brenda's Model 10.

I have lived through and seen the destructive power of a tornado firsthand. I saw it tear the roofs of buildings literally across the street and level two large brick buildings a couple hundred yards away. The collateral damage from the debris is horrible too. Shattered glass from cars and buildings (besides the tree limbs and other common stuff.) is everywhere too.

I think you should move the safe into the basement (may need a dehumidifier for it) and store most of your guns and other valuables (legal documents, jewelry, etc) in it. Hopefully, you have some emergency supplies stored down there too.

I am glad to hear you are okay and I hope those who where hit lost only replaceable material things.

If I could only save 3 of my handguns, I would grab my S&W 442, SA XD-9 w/PRP trigger and my SA Mil-Spec 1911 Stainless.

If I was to select 3 long guns, I would pick my Henry Big Boy, Arsenal SGL-21 and Sig 556 classic.

If I could only save 1 of each it would be the S&W442 and Henry Big Boy. And if only one gun from the whole collection could be saved it would be the Henry Big Boy.

All of my answers are based on sentimental value.

Also glad you and yours are ok! Fortunately cannot relate too much to the circumstances here in Arizona, but we have had a few tornados (rare) and get a few localized "microbursts" a year--sort of a mini tornado which can be very destructive to those unfortunate enough to be in their path. So, not entirely unthinkable. As a result of these events' rarity (and often tough digging conditions) we have few basements too, which would otherwise make a lot of sense here to escape the summer heat!

But back to the topic! Assuming you're fortunate enough at least to have a safe room to retreat to with loved ones and then some treasured guns - three handguns only? My Colt SAA ca 2009 in uncatalogued .44 Sp, S&W 65 Lady Smith .357 and Ruger NV SS Sheriff .44 Sp. All others (more) easily replaced.

Absolutely. Assuming I have time of course. Family #1, myself #2, photos next. If there is any additional time, I'll be grabbing my grandfather's medals, badges and other awards from his Army days. Besides, all the guns are in a giant chunk of steel except for the one on me.

I am glad that you and your family made out well and are all safe. Since I only have 1 gun and it's almost always on me that would be the one I'd save lol. I think everyone with a large gun collection should have each and every one documented with pictures ect and fully insured cuz as stated those items can be replaced but living things can't.

I can save them all.

Gun Lovers:
All my firearms are in gun safes down in the man cave in the basement. All would survive the tornado . . . and we've come close a couple of time.
Live well, be safe

Agree it is good to Move the safe to basement (unless you are in a flood Zone).

As to what three guns, they were lost in a boating accident.
