Handgun shopping depression.

Just outside the Chicago city limits the gun shops have about anything your heart desires ---- and the prices are a heart attack waitting to happen:eek:

Cabela's vs Gander Mtn vs Bass Pro Shops

Out of these three retailers I have discovered that Cabela's has the most reasonable prices. Found a used but nearly unfired S&W M&P 40c for $375 out the door complete with mags, box, and paperwork. Cabela's is willing to deal on used firearms. Ammunition and reloading components are also reasonably priced. But I was surprised to take a number and wait merely to buy some powder.

Gander Mtn and Bass Pro are generally higher than Cabela's by about 20%. I looked at a used CZ 452 at Gander Mtn and the fixed price was about $30 less than a new CZ at a nearby gun/pawn shop. GM's new price for the rifle is so high that it must be based on magical thinking.

Visited a local gun store and range this weekend. Gun cases relatively full, but business is obviously hopping. Prices weren't too out of whack, like the recent gun shows I've attended. In fact, they recently dropped the price on their in-stock AR lowers by $50. That surprised me.

As well, they had primers, all sizes, $30.99 per 1000. That's refreshing.

Oh, and since it's a daily topic of discussion on this forum, Wal-Mart got a new shipment of 9 and .45. Yes, they were out. Yes, they put the new stuff out. Yes, you can get some here. No, I didn't buy any.

Just was at a gun show on Saturday ... Large Pistol primers was going for $24.99 per 1000. Picked up a box. Don't see any real 'lack' right now, but things (reloading supplies and guns) are 'selling'....

Bah.

I'm already in a savings mode anyway right now.

This just guarantees it will be a while before I buy another handgun unless I run up on a REALLY GREAT deal.

Really unlikely that will happen now ,so I won't sweat it.

I definitely agree with parisites assesment of Obama though.

He has sold more firearms in the last three months then anything I've ever seen.

Many of our local small shops have little in stock either firearms or reloading supplies. the local WalMart usually has a good supply for reloading but that is way down as is their ammo. Was pleasantly surprised today though visiting a small shop in a nearby town, good selection of firearms, ammo, and reloading supplies and claimed she was getting powder weekly and did have a good supply on hand. I will go back there as prices were ok.

I think there are two main reasons for this, one we now have an anti-gun/anti-2nd amendment president and two there are shortages in certain regions for several different reasons some related to Obama and some not.

I would just look online and order that way, or just try a large gun show.
