Handgun purchase with a twist?

i just went through this with my ffl on 2 old yugo pistols..he said he needed to fill out a form for an FBI background check tho, not the ATF...

He said this would be faxed imediately to somewhere, maybe the ATF? I'm not crazy about the feds knowing my business.

I'm not even sure I understand how you could make this statement. You do know that background checks are called in to the FBI, right? And that every check is recorded with a NICS transaction number?

No delay for me,,,

Earlier this year I purchased a CZ-75B and a CZ-75B Kadet,,,
All I did was to fill out the standard 4473(?).

I wonder if this is a new requirement since I made my purchase,,,
Or if it is maybe a state requirement.

Anyways, here in Oklahoma it wasn't necessary.

Never had to do that here in NC. Show your concealed carry permit & no NICS check. Fill out the 4473 & walk out with your guns.

The buyer doesn't have to do anything, in NC or anywhere else. He only needs to fill out and sign the regular 4473. But in NC and anywhere else in the US, the DEALER has to submit a form to BATFE and local LE when a buyer purchases two or more handguns in a 5 day period. He just doesn't need to tell the buyer about it.

This thread has been interesting in that it shows how little people who own and buy guns know about the laws involved, even when they rant about them.

I had the ATF contact me about a multiple handgun purchase once. It was somewhat unexpected, but I knew they would be getting the multiple handgun purchase form. I live in Indiana just outside of Chicago, where a lot of "straw purchases" do indeed take place, so there is a bit more investigation into that sort of thing around here, as I understand it.

The ATF fellows were very polite and professional. Both seemed like real gun-nerds, and we got along famously. One of them owned one of the same handguns that was on my form, so we jawjacked for a while about it. I was fairly delighted to find out that there are normal and friendly folks in this particular division of government work.

It's not something I have any concern about, I would make another multiple purchase tomorrow if two or more handguns caught my fancy.

Not a big deal according to most people. BUT I'm the better be safe than sorry type and never buy more than one at a time. BTW, congrats on the 5906 & 4506. A couple of awesome pistols that I wished they still produced.

Handgun purchase with a twist?

For this reason,i have a lot of friends who need money.I'de be more concerned if they started checking on ammo sales and what i buy.Thats why i have multi guns in the same caliber.

I don't cherish the thought of playing kiss and tell.

The requirement for a dealer to report more than 1 purchase of a handgun by a customer in a 5 day period has been around since the 1980s, if not earlier.
In 1990 I bought 2 handguns on the same from a dealer-since he was way off my beaten path I didn't want to make another trip. I suppose my name went on a list somewhere, but I was never contacted by any authorities and the next time I applied for pistol purchase permits the Chief of Police didn't mention it. Granted it might be different today.

I just got delayed on a two handgun purchase yesterday.

If you were delayed through NICS, it had nothing to do with the purchase being 2 handguns.

The white 2+ form is still in use. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not done.

I didn't even see anything different last year, when i bought a revolver & a cz75b at the same time. The shopkeep is very nice and almost overly polite about the paperwork; i guess he has to deal with too many red tape-hating rednecks, LOL. I bought a bersa from him today; i hope i don't stir "the man" when i get the shopkeep to order me that cz82 Friday (two inexpensive guns in the same week).

I feel a little better knowing some of you have been through it. Don't know why but it's nice to have company....lol.
I have to asked my FFL about the NICS thing. In Pa, we have "PICS". The back ground check is run through the Pa. State Police.{I think} Maybe it's just all lumped together.
I bought a shotgun in Delaware last year and they ran me thru the NICS system.
Can Pa have their own system?
This will be my 4th and 5th pistol in 6 weeks! I've been on a pistol binge lately. I've been wanting a couple of these S&W's for a while now. I'm pretty pumped!

1140 fed form and most likely your FFL sent it without telling you as he would not want to get in trouble over selling you more than one without filling it out.

Nothing you as the buyer had to sign on that form, just the FFL.

It's not something new. IMO no big deal. ATF is not keeping records. Just looking for a possible pattern. I have purchased multiple handguns before without incident.
Question, would you rather the ATF getting a law passed that would make multiple handgun purchases illegal and allowing no more than say 1 per week?
Just my 2 schillings worth again but I think we all have much more to be concerned about than the dealer simply informing the ATF about a 2 gun purchase as with this possible legislation making headway here.

McCarthy Bill Would Ban Common Self-Defense Magazines

On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 308, the "Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act." The bill would ban the manufacture and importation of new magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. Unlike the magazine ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004, her new bill would also make it illegal for the tens of millions of Americans who already own these magazines to sell or otherwise transfer them, even through inheritance.
In a letter to her colleagues, Rep. McCarthy claimed, "The only reason for the existence of these devices is to be able to shoot as many people as quickly as possible." Yet her bill would allow the continued acquisition and possession of these magazines by law enforcement officers, who carry firearms to defend themselves and the public. It would even allow these magazines to be transferred to law enforcement officers upon retirement, even though a retired officer's right to use firearms for self-defense is the same as any other private citizen's right.

IMO no big deal. ATF is not keeping records. Just looking for a possible pattern. I have purchased multiple handguns before without incident.

My dealer told me that the record of multiple handgun purchases is PERMANENT per ATF. I don't think there's a permanent federal record of single handgun purchases. Also, I don't know why anyone would doubt that its a permanent record for multiple handgun purchase with the ATF? Wouldn't you have to keep the records to find a pattern?

I prefer to wait 5 BUSINESS days (Sundays do not count unless the shop is open) and the ATF not know what I did or what I have but thats me.

Got my hanguns today. Of course you guys were right. Nothing extra for ME to fill out.
The 5906 and 4506 are awsome weapons! Took them for a short trip and both function perfect. That 4506 is one hunk of handgun.....

In 2007 I inherited 4 handguns from out of state that I had shipped to a local dealer. I didn’t pay attention if there was extra paperwork, and the dealer I had them shipped to didn’t mention anything extra. I’ve heard of this “multiple handgun purchase” thing, but I’m not 100% certain how it works. I know one thing, he only charged me $20, which would be the same for only one gun. I thought it was a good deal.
