I voted 10/22

Its your money and ultimately it'll be your gun so get what you want but I voted the 10/22.

I have to admit I couldn't vote as though I don't own either of these as I owned both of these - however currently of the two choices I only own the 10/22 (a few of them actually).

The Hi-Point is an ugly but reliable weapon backed up by great customer service and an unbeatable warranty. In the end though I decided I liked other handguns more than the Hi-Point. I like my 1911 pistols with their 2lb S/A triggers. I like the 10/22 and AR builds and even like my revolvers way more than the Hi-Point products.

I figure as someone else said - EVERYONE should have a 10/22.

Those hi point 45s are huge. If I was to buy a hi point 45 it would be the carbine. Now had you posted this in the handgun section you may have had a different result!

If you want to get a .22lr,PLEASE consider other rifles besides the 10/22

Now......when you snag a .22lr rifle....get a Savage!

Why are you asking please it's not your rifle. Also what is wrong with the 10/22? Mine has close to 5000 rounds now with only 2 FTF which was with cheap CCI bulk ammo and during bump firing. I can hit bottle caps scoped at bench rest at over 100 yards all day long. I prefer the 10/22 to the savage because of the flush magazines which is key for carrying in the woods.

My handguns have to "jump" when I shoot them. And be able to kill an intruder.

.22 pistols do have recoil and will jump when you shoot them, and to think a .22 will not be able to kill an intruder is very ignorant.

I'm trying to save him from making a mistake with his hard earned $$$$

I guess all the hundreds of thousand of people who bought a 10/22 since the 1960's made a mistake also. Man now I am going to have to sell my 10/22 and get a savage.

Well, I've been called worse. :D And if you think that my statement was serious, you don't know me very well....

Well you cannot expect me to know you at all since this is an online forum, and I did not mean it as an insult. I just hear from way too many guys at the range how a .22 "wont do jack ****". I don't advocate the use of .22 as a self defense round, but anyone who has proper respect for firearms should realize that all calibers can be lethal and kill, and to think otherwise is ignorant.

I grew up in central Wisconsin boonies and know of all the poachers who took hundreds of deer at night using .22's. Any projectile can kill if placed in the head or similar deadly location. Air rifles included. Are we friends now? :D

Have fun with the Hi-Power.

Its not a bad gun - especially for the price. Personally Hi-Points lack a little too much in aesthetics for me to like them enough to buy them. If I'm looking for an inexpensive .45acp handgun I go looking for my Bersa Ultra Compact 45.

Also has a lifetime warranty, very accurate (I can hit a milk bottle with all 8 rounds in the gun at 25 yds), easy to shoot and easy to carry either cc or open. I can draw the gun from an IWB holster at 3 or 4 o'clock carry and double tap putting both shots in a 3" circle at 10 yds with this gun. Extremely reliable (3500 rounds and only 3 FTF due to the mag spring being weak - replaced spring and no more FTF).

Price? Right around $400 before tax and background check. IF you manage to find one private sale in good condtion you might be able to get it for around $300.

Anyway you're in SE WI. I'm in NE/ME WI. Shoot me an email some time and maybe we can go do some shooting!

Oh to the gentleman who was bashing the 10/22 favoring a Savage. - I owned both. At one time I owned 1 10/22 and 1 Savage Mk 2. When it came to accuracy I have to say that the Savage was the clear winner hands down - but I'd expect a bolt gun to be more accurate than a semi-auto. Reliability and ergonomics wise I couldn't really see a great difference between the two. I sold the Savage to a friend - he wanted a gun to shoot mini-palma. I kept the 10/22 and got more 10/22 rifles. Why? I like being able to load a 25rd mag and plink away quickly. Accuracy is good enough for me - I can shoot a squirrel in the head at 75yds with any of my 10/22s and that's all I need really. I don't believe that I made a mistake and wasted my money on any of my 10/22s. I didn't waste money on the Savage either. Both are good guns but for my tastes the 10/22 is better suited. While your opinion is your right to have you should really consider others' opinions and experience before you make such a broad statement (which might be considered libel by some parties) about making a mistake and wasting money.

I bought a Hi-Point 45 ACP. I guess in my guts I just wanted one. So go ahead and laugh at me. I think it's a pretty slick deal for under $200 and the dealer threw in a $20 box of ammo. Got an extra clip too.

Nothing to laugh at here... Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Hope you enjoy your new gun:)

Only if you appreciate accuracy and ergonomics!

For Savage RF bolts I have a MK II Mako, a MK II BSEV, a 93R17 BTVS, and a Pink Thumbhole Cub for my daughter. All tack drivers. Almost to the point of being boring. Good problem to have.

I also have two 10/22s. Yes I have had to spend some money on them to get them to shoot along side the Savages, but there's something about these 10/22s that is just plain fun. Never boring.

That's why I recommended the 10/22. Never boring.
