Handgun Neglect/Abuse

Gun = completely inanimate object. It's a hunk of metal with some added wood or plastic.
When that inanimate object might be the only thing standing between me and a surly end, I tend to think of it with a bit of respect. I'm going to put a great deal more effort into keeping it maintained than I am something I just need to fix a hole in drywall.

I agree... while I am not one to name my guns I do believe in taking very good care of them. To quote a great man "Don't let the sun set on a dirty gun" I believe the same applies to a gun in a holster.

While it may not have been the intention, I think Aarond's post put things in pespective.

On May 3rd, 1999,,,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A series of tornadoes devastated central Oklahoma,,,
My sister's house was completely destroyed,,,
Most of it ended up in Kansas somewhere.

But we did find parts of her dresser,,,
And the S&W Model 36 she had stored in a drawer.

I was in Tulsa when the storms hit Oklahoma in '99. I hope Aarond's sister and family and the families of all here survived that event without injury. But when I read stories of homes being decimated and lives changed forever the gun becomes rather insignificant.

I don't mean to imply that it was a priority for Aarond, as I'm sure it wasn't.

There are plenty of guns rusting away in garages and barns. Most of them weren't considered to be valuable when they were left there. Who knows, 50 years from now somebody on a forum like this may be upset because they found a rare Taurus Judge that had been allowed to tarnish. ;)

+1 I respect and take major care of all my guns. If an occurence happens that is out of my hands..It just gives the gun a little more character ;)

That's great, but the OP wasn't talking about HIS gun. How someone else wants to take care of his/her gun is completely their choice. Someone wants to own a rusted, dirty POS go right ahead. But it's metal, plastic, wood and someone else's gun doesn't deserve "respect" in the context the OP used. Using the word respect in this context is being a Nancy.

You callin' me a Nancy? If I saw you in person I'd slap you with a glove and challenge you to a duel.

Also, don't know what point you're getting at papa...but I'm pretty sure that the OP agrees with me and not you.

Just my $0.01

(Obama taxed me)

You 2 can be the first members of TFL's "Nancy" Club. Maybe the mods can give you a room in back where you can have a good cry when a neglected gun turns up  :D :p

I'm getting ready to mail you that glove with instructions to slap yourself with it.

Don't know how the duel part is going to go down though.
