I only own three handguns, and just realized that two of them were made in countries that don't even exist any more - the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. Ain't milsurp collecting grand?

i don't care where they're made, though i AM surprised that option is winning

every time i see a thread about 'which gun should i get' and there's an American-made option, that one wins and has the phrase '...it's made in America!!' tag attached to majority of the posts recommending it

I've bought handguns from the USA as well as other countries.

Given my choice, I'd rather buy American, but they don't always fit my need as well; especially with semi-autos.

As it turns out, all of my handguns that I own now were made in the USA. Just the way it works out.

But for me, I prefer US made handguns, but I also collect historical handguns, and its tough to find Webleys, Lugers, Mausers, Walthers, etc., with historical models made in the US.

My handguns purchased for recreation are nearly all US made, but not all, simply because not all the designs I want are made by US makers.

I think, to make your poll a little more accurate (assuming you are looking for #s of people who buy American only) that you focus on current production guns. Or perhaps have a category for those who would buy American primarily and only buy foreign guns for specific models.

17 of my revolvers are US made. One is not. My autopistols for sport are 11 US, one foreign made. Duty class autos (current & historical) are 2 and 4, repectively, and pocket guns are one and one. And both my single shot handguns are US made.

So, where do I fit in the poll? Heavily US, but including historical guns, not exclusivly US.

I don't think it ever got past the rumor stage that Springfields were being made in the Philippines; As far as I know, the 1911s have always come from Brazil.

I don't care to buy stuff from Communist (Fascist, etc) countries. I'll never own an AK or SKS no matter where it was made, thank you very much. Not that it isn't a fine weapon with a very robust design

But how do you draw the distinction? For example, the Arsenal SGL-21 AK's are made mostly in the Russian Federation which is not a communist country, so why not?

I prefer to purchase a handgun that is manufactured in the USA if i can get it. My fav's are S&W and Para USA. But i have noticed that the sigs are tanks to say the least my father in law has a 229 and that thing is pretty nice

It wasn't a conscious decision, but I realized that ALL of my handguns are American made. As it should be, I suppose.

If the product that I'm interested in is a quality item, and it happens to be manufactured in the USA, then I'll certainly buy it. But, if it's not, I won't lose sleep over it. I have a large number of S&W, Colt, Ruger and Kimber handguns in my safe, but I also own Taurus, Bersa, Tanfoglio, CZ, Magnum Research, Star and a few other foreign names. They are all finely crafted handguns, and they have served me well.

I hear people say "Buy American". Do you realize how hard it would be to do that? It is hard to say it and abide by it in a global economy...You would have to spend all your time researching products if you wanted to buy strictly American and a lot of products you couldn't buy at all.

2 or 3 years ago, I saw a report on TV where a woman tried to exclusively buy American made products for 30 days. About 2 weeks in, she gave up, because she couldn't do it. She couldn't find American made clothes or shoes for her kids, as well as a few other everyday items.

I imagine it's even worse now.

I prefer US made handguns ...old S&W revolvers and 1911's ( Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer ) ...all us made...

but I have a few Sigs - that were made in Germany...

By the way - both Browning and Winchester are owned by FN now...
