More like anything electronic is more apt to fail than fixed sights!

How often do the electronics in your car fail you? How about your tv? prone to failure? Whens the last time your radio quit...

Although these things certainly can happen and eventually will if you dont change them every so many years they tend to work for a vast majority of the population...

Fear of a laser not working at a critical momen is IMHO foolishness because in the end the bullets going where the sights are if the laser fails...

I suppose this forum is filled with people who never use cruise control because it might fail....

heres the deal, the best way possible to look at the question. "are electronic or optical scopes good enough to completely replace iron sights?"

the question is NO. if these items were 100% reliable, no one here would have to ever bother with checking their zero before hunting season. no one would ever even think of rechecking it after say, it fell off the atv or tailgate when you were going 30 miles an hour... get the point?

even in the 3 police standoffs in my state in the last year, in each instance i was always able to find at least 3 or 4 swat snipers in the televised content whose rifles ONLY had fixed sights, and those were all ar/m4 type rifles.

Let's see...The radio in my boat didn't work the last time I had it out. I've had several computers that bought it. The computer in my son's Camaro died. I've had a couple TV's go on the fritz. I drooped a portable radio, and it quit working.
In my job as an electrician I've replaced countless electronic circuit boards that were faulty in equipment that controlled the refrigeration in supermarkets.
Luckily, my life wasn't being threatened when these things happened.
Again, as I stated before. It's human nature that if you rely on a laser and it doesn't work, you will spend precious moments trying to find out. Or adjusting to use the iron sights.

Its the same old 8 track tape versus Blue Ray debate, its whatever you prefer because we sure wouldn’t want science to get in the way of archaic beliefs
You lie! 8-track will make a comeback. Someday it will, and who'll be laughing then? You guessed it: me. When the EMP hits and wipes out all your silly digital stuff, I'll still be rockin' out to Krokus. :)

Lasers might be a supplement to iron sights, but they don't replace them. For me, a handgun is a last-ditch tool in a scenario when all other preparations have failed. I don't want to be too dependent on a piece of electronic gear. They're certainly an aid in point-shooting, but my biggest worry is the number of new shooters who are utterly dependent on the laser to the point that they can't shoot with irons.

Oh, and to reiterate: it's spelled LASER, as in "Light Amplification through Stimulated Emission of Radiation."

And how many lasers have failed you under any circumstances???

Its ok its like Burger King, you can have it your way but dont be suprised in the future if lasers come on every weapon some day...

None, I don't have any....Oh, yes I do, it looks like a pen, and I used to use it at work to point things out as I laid work out, but it quit working!

By the poll so far, that doesn't look likely!

A laser hasn't failed, per se, but due to an oddity of design it came without an off switch... odd, because other lasers from that same manufacturer have off switches....

So, it works, but the battery is very, very low, and the light is barely visible in the dark, let alone twilight.

Still haven't figured out how to turn it fully off, short of taking it off the gun and pulling the battery, which seems counterproductive. (By off, I mean OFF not standby.)

Kozak......Me too, not only that but once had a laser
on my old Glock 26.....the pickups for the batteries
got folded down in time as a shot the gun often. Had
to buy thicker pads at home depot so the batteries
would lay tight on the pickups. Problem was that the
thicker pads did not allow the grips to fit correctly.

Another thing, I shoot alot of fast draw point & shoot.
When timed, I found myself looking for the laser dot
and it really slowed down the first shot enough that
in a SD situation it would be problem at least for me.

They all have a place.

My 2 most carried CCW revolvers both have fixed sights, as does my Custom Colt 1911, and my XDm 40. They work just fine for SD situations.
I also have a set of laser grips for my 638. I keep them turned off except in low light situations.
My 480 Ruger Super RedHawk has a 30mm UltraDot sight on it, as did the 44 Mag Super RedHawk before it. The Red Dot sight works great for hunting revolvers.
Adjustable sights, I also have several handguns with them. It is handy to be able to adjust the sights for different loads.

I voted "adjustable", however all have a purpose. It just depends on what the user will do with the handgun. I carry concealed, I carry open in the woods, I shoot Pistol Matches, and I also hunt with a handgun. I have uses for each type of sight.
