Poll-What type of sites do you like best for your "Handgun" ?
Well I just love to point it and shoot it.....
Give me a good ol' set of "fixed iron sites" everytime.

I voted adjustable iron but be advised that they are sights, not sites (as in web sites). Also, you really need to specify a purpose. For a defensive or carry gun I prefer fixed iron sights due to their lower profile and reduced tendency to get snagged.

Much as I would love to have a set of lazer sights for my 1911, . . . I have met Mr. Murphy (as in Murphy's law) all too often, . . . and I really don't want to have to entertain him while I am in the middle of a firefight on which my life depends.

Therefore, . . . fixed irons will do, . . . that's what I train with, . . .

May God bless,
Dwight

I like adjustable sights, that said I like my crimson trace as well but still voted for the adjustable sights because if I have to pick only one it would be the adjustable iron sights. Fortunately I can have both if I so choose.

On a defensive gun go with the lasers. You may very well have to shoot without being to bring the gun up to sight. Don't rely on the laser for everything, practice with iron sights. If your on the ground at night that red light is sure a help.

I am not aware of a single documented case of a laser failing during a self-defense situation, I guess for some remembering to change the batteries a couple times a year is much too difficult.

Its the same old 8 track tape versus Blue Ray debate, its whatever you prefer because we sure wouldn’t want science to get in the way of archaic beliefs...

I voted for fixed sights, simply because lasers work both ways. Im not really a range queen who shoots with optics. Besides who uses sights in a citizen self defense scenario?

I voted iron adjustable b/c most of my handguns are revolvers used for plinking and hunting. I want something I can dial in exactly where I want to hit. I do like fixed for most defense purposes, mainly because adjustable have a tendency to snag on clothing, etc.

I tried a crimson trace on my P229 and didn't like it. People better then me love the laser so maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. The laser slowed me down considerable, (looking at the target and looking for the dot or shooting and watching the dot jump up and down.) I was much faster and more accurate with iron sights. I could see the laser having a psychological effect on a BG during low light encounters.

Scopes are ok but I've missed a few chances deer hunting because of the scope, (deer was too close and I couldn't find him through the scope fast enough.) I switched to a red dot and loved it until I broke it.

For combat/self defense I'll stick with a plain old three dot fixed sight. I'm still looking for a set of fiber optic sights for my contender.

I guess for some remembering to change the batteries a couple times a year is much too difficult.

More like anything electronic is more apt to fail than fixed sights!

And yes, the fixed sights are there for backup. But human nature dictates that if you learn to rely on the laser and it fails, you will wast a precious moment to try it again, or find out why it isn't on.

Instinctive shooting doesn't rely on glowing dots in my mind. Good training aid if you use it to learn instinct shooting, but then turn it off and practice without it. JMHO

Trijicon RMR red dot sight, co-witnessed with iron suppressor sights for back up in the unlikely event the optics fail.

But, at extreme close ranges, I also rely on threat focused "point shooting" techniques that don't require sights.

Fixed sights for a carry gun - nothing to go wrong.

But I have a red dot on a little .22 for plinking, and that bugger is fun.

I like iron sights.

Red lasers are useless outside in daylight, which makes them ill suited for plinking.

I can't afford high quality optics at this time.

Iron sights fixed or adjustable for carry,
optic for hunting, red dot or scope,
red dot for match guns
