Handgun cleaning:when, how often?

any time they have been fired without question they will be getting stripped and cleaned. other than that it is done a strictly as needed basis. At least once a year I try to take everything out of the safe and reapply a nice layer or oil to help preserve them .

Shooting is fun. Cleaning is a chore. If i felt I had to clean my guns every time I fired them, I wouldn't shoot them as often. Or I'd only take one gun to the range at a time.

Where's the fun in that?

I don't think a pipe wrench needs to be taken apart, scrubbed, and oiled before it's put away either. And I have wrenches and other tools that were passed down from my grandfathers. Working things don't have to be kept in LNIB condition to continue working.

I run bore snakes through mine after shooting them. My CCW gets Cleaned once a month, my other guns gets take out of the safe and cleaned and lubed every 3 months. I live in a high humidity area, and even though I try to keep the humidity down in the safe, I find I need to lube them every 3 months to be sure to keep down any rust.
