This is an original 14th century .55 caliber handgonne.

It appears .54 caliber wouldn't be an inauthentic caliber after all.

How long should the staff be on one of these here boom sticks? I think I'll make one out of hickory. Or would the square shape of a post hole digger handle be more favorable to facilitate mounting the s shaped match cord lever sold by the rifle shoppe?

The one I'm going to have made won't have a serpentine.

I will just use a stick with a slow match attached. The serpentine ones are later.

Oh ok gotcha! Maybe I'll do that. I just don't know about a burning cord hanging above the charged flash hole before I'm behind it. Unless you remove and install the cord as you go.

It looks like this:

A separate stick with a slow much attached. You just stick the other end of the stick in the ground while reloading the handgonne.
