A handful of Performance Center and distributor-exclusive versions were made in the interim, but due to the 15-year production hiatus, the M586 is relatively uncommon with the frame-mounted firing pin, and 7-shot "Plus" versions are needles in the haystack. Almost all M586s are 6-shot with hammer-mounted firing pins.
Actually, AFAIK the concealed-hammer J frame models (40/42/332/340/442/most 632/640/642) supposedly do not, although I've never personally taken one apart to verify this.Nanuk said:All Smiths made after WWII have the current hammer block safety.
