H&K Paddle Magazine Release

I have a P30 as my EDC and I have an HK45. I think the HK paddle release is a better design for an ambi mag release than the Glock Gen4 reversable mag release, which doesn't let you use older non Gen4 mags in a LH config Gen4 gun.

Regardless of whether the mag release is a button or paddle, if you train & practice with either you can adjust to either.

I put the extended paddle on my USP Compact and find it to be an ideal mag release. It just seems like my shooting hand thumb finds it and pushes it down very naturally. The down motion works better for me than the typical button-pushing sideways motion.

That extended paddle fits many H&K pistols but not all. I do not know if there will be such an upgrade for the P30 & VP series.

Who has much more trouble with the Walther paddle release. His trigger finger is trained to do one thing, and one thing only.

Loved the paddle release the first time I tried one. I think they are superior to the push button style. First they are fully ambidextrous and then I can use either my trigger finger, middle finger, or even my thumb. I've never had an accidental mag release with a paddle equipped gun.

I would say I prefer the HK's to the Walthers by small margin. I like the wider and more ridged one piece of the HK's and the length of the Walther's. A combination of the two would be perfect for me and I wish all of my guns had paddles instead of buttons.

I personally don't think that it is a problem with the paddle style magazine release, I think it is just weak ammunition. I remember that with the HK P30's and P30l's it was recommended to use full power 147gr or 124gr ammunition and not the 115gr ammunition because the recoil springs needed to be broke in a bit. I have not heard of that recommendation with the VP9's, but I would suspect weak ammunition before anything else, especially during the break in period.
