Guys in next lane brought a girl with them to the range today

and proceeded to shoot without talking to her, offering to let her shoot, talk to her, etc. It was 40* out. I almost offered to let her shoot my ML, but I'm married, and I have reached an age where thoughts like that generate warning pangs of pain from joints that have memories of similar situations. I decided they must have offered on previous trips and she was really against it or something

After about 40 minutes, with only one magazine left, they offered to let her shoot. After about three back and forths consisting of polite refusals she agreed.

Shooting a ML where it is necessary to wait a few minutes between a shot and loading is much different than shooting a cartridge gun BTW(my first time doing so at a public range). Normally I wouldn't be able to ID the people in the lane next to me in a line-up the next day.

I often see girls at my local indoor shooting range that pretty much just stand there and watch their presumed boyfriend or husband shoot, maybe they get dragged into doing it but its kind of pointless to come and watch someone else shoot IMO.

I was at the range today and noticed two young women in their early twenties renting handguns to shoot. The public ranges that I frequent seem to have a pretty good demographic mix of shooters that in no way fit the traditional stereotype.

I was out at my shooting spot this summer with some Star Reactive Targets...you know, just having fun.

Anyway, a guy shows up with his girlfriend/fiance. He has a H&K .40 and a .17HMR. This was her first time shooting. Obviously she didn't like the 40. And the hmr was scoped and she had trouble with her sight picture.

Clearly she's having no fun. I thought to myself..."GREAT...we're gonna lose another one"

So, I grabbed a reactive target real quick and loaded the 10/22. I brought it over and explained what it was and how to hold/use the rife.

It took her the 11 rounds and coaching to not bend backwards like something out of The Matrix.

Once that baby blew...she was ecstatic! She had a huge smile on her face when she left.

The couple came by before leaving to say thanks. I asked her if she was going to go buy a 10/22 now. Explaining how cheap and infinite options are. She said definitely. Lol

Guess I did my part.

LMAO . I so know what your talking about . I would not say it's a lot but why do some woman stand striaght leged and arch there backs like that . Not a real question I just totally had the mental picture in my head of her shooting .:D

A couple weeks ago, I took the wife to the outdoor range. The line is covered in plywood and carpet and while picking up a shell while loading a mag, she jabbed a splinter 1/4" up under her fingernail.

She sets everything down, cycles her weapon, locks the bolt open and comes to find me.

All we have with us a small leatherman type tool, so I commence to digging out the splinter with a pair of leatherman needle nose pliers.

I finally get the splinter out and she goes back to her spot at the line and finishes reloading.

Never flinched ... just said "Thanks." My buddy almost freaked ...

We were married on December 15, 1978 ... I think she's a keeper.

I see girls at my outdoor range quite often, usually in their twenties or thirties.

Back in the summer I was there with a friend and we saw two guys (dressed like they were going to a metal concert) and a girl with a single AK47. My buddy and I were shooting can at 100 yards with our rifles (mine a Mauser and his a Mosin.) they joined us at the 100 yard line and the two guys spent the better part of a hour throwing as much lead down range as they could.

Now, I'm not one to judge, but based on the number of shots they were firing, my peeping T their target revealed they were executing the classic "spray and pray" method of shooting, popularized by movie BG's. based on their first 20-30 shots I would say they hit the target, at all, about half the time.

After an hour my buddy, dog that he is, goes and talks to the girl and offers to let her shoot his scoped Mosin. He shows her how to hold it and warns her about the recoil (I was eminently nervous about this tiny thing shooting that Mosin!) She shoots three times and makes a nice ragged hole right around the bullseye! Bout 3 inches or so! Nice right?

So I called the closer of the two guys over and let him see her shots through the spotting scope; after that they let her shoot the AK. (And sorry inquiring minds, I didn't see how she did, we left after she shot my buddies gun.)

Looks can be deceiving I guess!

This was a state range and probably 150 people cycled when I was there. Mostly men, but at least a dozen women. Maybe more. All the others were participating.

I usually shoot at private locations where it is just me or maybe a few extra people I already know.

Kind of blew my mind.

Lots of girls at the range i go to. Most of them shoot. One of them has the cutest pink AR you have ever seen:D. Pink with Black camo on it. Darn good shot with it to.

I don't approach women who aren't shooting at the range - my wife takes care of that task in an admirable fashion. :D

More often than not, I approach people at the range who appear to have had a bad first experience with shooting. I can't count the times I have seen folks hand a new shooter way too much gun and then laugh when it scares the shooter. I nearly always carry a .22 pistol to the range and have used it many times to demonstrate that learning to shoot does not need to be scary, painful, or embarrassing.

I taught women's self defense classes (NRA instructor) for a few years and the most satisfying and fun job I ever had in my life was watching women realize that they could shoot a firearm as well (or better) than any man. You could see their eyes light up when they saw just how easy it is. My all time favorite student was an 82 year old grandmother. She rocked. She mastered 22 pistols, .38 revolvers, .45 ACP 1911s and even shotguns and begged for more.

I wish i had that problem. My wife is L.E. and on Swat.I find firearms missing, and then they turn up in her trunk, her purse,or on her hip.

I see females accompanying their significant others to the range all the time. More times than not, they never shoot, nor do they show any interest at all to. I figure they are there just to be there, show support to their SO and their hobbies and/or to make sure Bubba don't stop at the bar on the way home. Kinda the same way I get dragged along shopping with my wife..............

My girl just shot 149 out of 150 at her quarterly training day. Our first date was to the range and I had no issue at all with her handling of a firearm. I am in love!

I was at the range once and another shooter who knew I was a southpaw asked if I had a left handed rifle his wife could borrow. I handed him ammo and my left handed AR that I had assembled from a kit. It caught him by surprise. She sure enjoyed it.

I am seeing more and more women at my local shooting range. Some are there with their boyfriends, however, I'm also seeing more and more who show up alone and rent a range. These lovely ladies handle their guns safely and are very good shots. I'm glad to see more women learning to shoot, now I just wished I could find one.:D

My experience has been that women are easier to teach, listen to instructions better, and have no preconceived notions about how to stand or how to grip the gun, etc. They never assume that they "know" how to handle or shoot a gun (like most men will) Correct them one time and they'll never make that mistake again. And most of them DO turn out to be better shots than their husbands. It's a beautiful thing.
