Gunvault pistol safe

I'm not sure why batteries that need to be changed every couple of years are a hassle.

Glad it works for you. Your experience is different from mine. I found the battery pack inconvenient and batteries short-lived. My V-Line case was a lot less hassle compared to the GunVault. It was also a lot more secure.

GunVault does exactly that. It not for theft deterrence, for 5 minutes or 5 seconds

No one other than the manufacturer claims otherwise. However, the claim on the manufacturer's website:

FOOLPROOF SECURITY
Precise fittings are virtually impossible to pry open with hand tools.

Just ain't so.

My personal experience is that the GunVault is far less secure againt a pry attack than cheaper alternatives. My personal experience is that it is also less convenient in day-to-day use than more secure alternatives like the V-line cases. And then there is problems with rotary lock vulnerabilities. At least Kryptonite recalled their locks and replaced them with something more secure. GunVault AFAIK has never even acknowledged there could be a problem.

I am glad you are happy with your experience with GunVaults. My experience was different. Based on my personal experience, if I bought another lock box today it would be either a V-line or Ft. Knox, not a GunVault.

I'm not arguing that the GunVault is the greatest thing on the market, but it's $79. I'm sure that those V-Line boxes are great but they're almost TRIPLE the price, running over $200 on eBay.

What brand is the $29 box that's better than a GunVault?

Theft deterrence is not even a factor for me. If the gun is in that box then I'm home, if I'm not home then the gun is on my hip.

I've had one for about 5-6 yrs. In fact this is reminding me to do my annual battery change. It is pretty good for its intended use. It's not a true safe, but it keeps it away from curious little hands while still being quick to deploy your handgun if needed.

I've never had any problems with them and actually have been surprised by the battery life. I wouldnt bother with the fingerprint reader version as I've heard they're a little flaky.

I agree with the above poster. These are more designed for people that have small children in the house. They are NOT designed for theft protection or to 100% stop access. For the price alone, anyone should be able to figure that out. :)

Regardless, I've owned a few brands and the Gun Vault is my favorite. Very reliable and the battery life is great.

I just got my GunVault Mini Deluxe in the mail today. It the middle of programming it/checking it out the door stopped opening. So, now I get to call GunVault tomorrow to get this worked out. Piece of crap. :barf:

As I said in a previous post, I have 2 Gunvault products, a Multi Deluxe and the Microvault for my Jeep/air travel. Both had problems (Multi had a lock problem and the Micro keypad stopped working)

In both instances I called Gunvault tech support, was cheerfully issued an RMA and had a replacement in a week. Gunvault included a return UPS label.

Their products are not perfect, but they do stand behind them no questions asked IMO. Both replacements are working fine. These devices are not the best things out there, but at least in my case I feel like they do what I want at a reasonable price. I have no no problems with the replacement units. (7 months)

We're talking kids and not thieves in this thread, right?

I have two of these Secure-It Security Boxes that cost about $30 each.

They are basic and inexpensive. They keep kids out very well. A strong thief can rip it out but bolting it down adds a little security. The two halves come together surprisingly tight, so it's not that easy to pry open with a screwdriver. But I use them to keep my kids safe, nothing more. It comes with steel cable and has holes in the bottom for bolts.

IMO, the best feature of these little boxes is their size: they can be hidden so that a child (or thief) may not ever even find them. I use two right now, and both are well out of sight in places you wouldn't think to look unless you had plenty of time alone in the house and were on a mission looking for hidden items.
