Why are H&K'S so much and went up? good guns?
HK's in general are great guns, and have always been one of my favorite makers. For a "stock" military type gun, they are usually unbelievably accurate and reliable, right out of the box. HK was also far ahead of any of the other makers when it came to "accessorizing", and had all the "cool stuff", long before anyone else. If anything, just about everything you see today "tactical" wise, was HK influenced.
What caused certain of their models to attain legendary status was a combination of weapons/import bans, and HK's own corporate policies. There was a time when you could call HK on the phone and order anything parts or accessories related. One magical day, that all ended, and they would hang up on you if you werent an "HK dealer" or government agency. Prices started to skyrocket at that pont too, even on guns that werent covered by import bans.
Back in the 80's and 90's, I paid $450 each for my HK94 and P7M13, and around $500 each for a couple of HK91's, all NIB. At that time, 94 and P7M13 mags were going for around $25 ea, which really wasnt all that cheap then either, but just a few years later, they were $125 each, if you could even find them.
I sold my P7M13 in the mid 90's for over double what I paid for it. I sold the 91's in the early 2000's for around $2000 each, and made around another $1000 or so just from the accessories from each gun. The 94, I had that converted to an MP5 a week before the machine gun ban in 86 for $350. I sold that a couple of years back here for $15000. In almost 25 years of constant use, and who knows how many tens (maybe even hundreds) of thousands of rounds through it over that time, it had one part break, a roller retainer in the bolt.
