Gun's that will Hold Value or Go Up.

I don't give the monitary value of my guns that much concern. Some of the more recently purchased ones are probably worth less than I paid. Some of the C&R "Cheap shooters" are worth a lot more. a French MAS36 that was $41 shipped to my door, and now they are in the $150 range. 2 Yugo SKS's that were $90-$120 now $300. If you read my signature below, you'll see those numbers mean nothing to me. Neither does having any "safe queens". Everything I own is for shooting, not investment. The hobby is much more fun that way!!!

Why are H&K'S so much and went up? good guns?
HK's in general are great guns, and have always been one of my favorite makers. For a "stock" military type gun, they are usually unbelievably accurate and reliable, right out of the box. HK was also far ahead of any of the other makers when it came to "accessorizing", and had all the "cool stuff", long before anyone else. If anything, just about everything you see today "tactical" wise, was HK influenced.

What caused certain of their models to attain legendary status was a combination of weapons/import bans, and HK's own corporate policies. There was a time when you could call HK on the phone and order anything parts or accessories related. One magical day, that all ended, and they would hang up on you if you werent an "HK dealer" or government agency. Prices started to skyrocket at that pont too, even on guns that werent covered by import bans.

Back in the 80's and 90's, I paid $450 each for my HK94 and P7M13, and around $500 each for a couple of HK91's, all NIB. At that time, 94 and P7M13 mags were going for around $25 ea, which really wasnt all that cheap then either, but just a few years later, they were $125 each, if you could even find them.

I sold my P7M13 in the mid 90's for over double what I paid for it. I sold the 91's in the early 2000's for around $2000 each, and made around another $1000 or so just from the accessories from each gun. The 94, I had that converted to an MP5 a week before the machine gun ban in 86 for $350. I sold that a couple of years back here for $15000. In almost 25 years of constant use, and who knows how many tens (maybe even hundreds) of thousands of rounds through it over that time, it had one part break, a roller retainer in the bolt.

In view of the times I have been collecting Ruger handguns. They are cheap to buy, well known for reliability, and have loads of spare parts available like recoil springs, etc. I came to this when considering investing in things like rolls of silver coins ($400.00 buys 1 $10.00 roll of quarters). The same $400.00 will buy any of a number of mid-high quality hand guns.

Bought this gun at a yard sale for $400 and sold it for $750. Don't normally like yard sales, but wife asked to go. I'm glad I did.

Colts hold their value better than any other guns. IMHO 1911 WWI Repos were $900 guns NIB try to find one used these days for under $1200 and these are only a few years out of production. Any Colt Python that you do not over pay for will hold its value if not increase.

Mil-surplus guns when purchased at the right price will increase in value. M1 Carbines, Sistema Colts, M1 Garands etc.... will all become more valueable as more and more go to the scrap heap or rust away in a closet.

HK P7 series guns will go up in value because they are no longer produced and where never produced in high numbers.

Browning Hi Powers if you pick the right ones will never go down in value if you buy smart.

Sig P210s hold their value. Recently imported Swiss guns are worth more than the new Legend series guns.

I completely disagree with people claiming that high end semi-customs like Wilsons, Ed Browns & Baers will go up in value. They will not even hold their value if they are unfired. NIB transfered and owned always sell for less than NIB from the manufacturer.

In addition to the suggestions for guns that increase in value (WVsig had a great post on this subject) I want to add one thing:

With knowledge, money, patience and discipline, it is not hard or impossible to invest in firearms and/or sell them for a profit. Stories like what happened to postmaster happen all the time, everyday, every gun show. Not everyone who buys a gun goes to a gun shop and pays retail to get it. Some, like me, are bargain hunters, looking for the private party selling for whatever reason or perhaps someone who doesn't know what they have. Deals can be had. I got many this year actually. Sometimes when the gun is rare, near mint or what have you, they can be hard to sell after you get them but with some patience, the deals can and will be found allowing money to be made.

It seems to be that just because few invest in firearms, because few know how to, that the consensus opinion is that it cannot be done or that its unwise to invest them but neither is true. It can and is done, by many people.

Like all things know what you are looking at buy low and sell high if you are looking to make money. I personally buy low but do not make much money because most don't get sold once they are owned....

Patience and available cash to buy the real gems when they appear is the way to go. I paid hundreds of $$$ less than people pay for NIB MKIIIs for this BHP a few years ago. I recently saw one in rougher condition than this one sell on GB for $1200.

Who cares? I just want to shoot the heck out of my gun's and enjoy them now.

Just like those darn car collector's.

Drive them, or shoot them, or give them away when you freaking dead!:D:mad::D

Buy gold!!!!!

As long as you stick with the well known names the prices will hardly go down, they may not go up enough for someone to retire on but they will go up, even if it's only a little bit, eventually some will go higher than others but if you can shoot them without abusing them they will hold their value.

After I posted this i just purchased another to the collection

I talked the Guy down from $500 to $400 (He needed the cash to gamble), looks %95 to me, this will be another added to my collection, I guess my point of the post was, along the lines of what another poster stated about finding deals, that are worth more, I hardly ever buy Retail, only if its a New Gun that just came out usually for CCW.
