Guns in Virginia?

Not everybody goes to church on Sunday. Some go on other days, but if you don't want to go hunting on Sundays it's okay with me.

The animals can rest Monday through Friday.

The hikers and birdwatchers can have the woods to themselves most of the year because hunting seasons are short. Some people talk like deer season is 52 weeks. Or 26.

Do you realize Virginia paid to import whitetails in the 1930s? There weren't any deer to speak of when I was a kid and I never knew a deer hunter growing up in the 50s and 60s. Now a harvest of over 100k can't stem the flood of deer.

My grandparents lived 1.5 miles back in the mountains and I wasn't allowed to shoot at the woodpile on Sunday because somebody might think I was hunting.

Gun friendly state :D I was shopping at Farm Fresh grocery store in Hampton yesterday and saw a responsible gun owner with a Ruger p89 or 90 on his clearly visible on his hip.

I live in Florida, and vacation in the DC area regularly.

We normally stay in Arlington VA so I can have guns with me, I leave them locked in the hotel when venturing into DC.

VA is very gun friendly, and they have gun related TV shows that play at the hotel...keeping me up all night.:) I wish I could get those channels In Jacksonville.

Well, we hope the man toting the Ruger was a responsible gun owner, now, don't we? But enough about guns. Lynchburg has one of the best private schools in the country: VES.

"no the record striper from smith is much bigger, i was in one of the marinas up there and the one time record was on the wall, i think it was close to 80lbs,"

I don't think so. The saltwater striper record has been 68 and somebody just caught a 73, but that's saltwater and it hasn't been approved yet. The freshwater stripers aren't that big.

"Fred Barnes lands a 73-pounder off of Cape Henry surpassing the existing record by almost five pounds."

The world record is just less than 82 pounds.

I've seen much bigger fish come out of the Chesapeake, but they were netted, not hooked, and don't count.

Just don't move north of Fredericksburg Va.

The traffic is a nightmare.

I like my states gun laws.

If I moved anywhere else it would probably be Texas or Arizona.

Get your ccw license as soon as you get here and it's legal.

Saves alot of hassle and gives you piece of mind too.

Just to back up what other posters have said, VA is a very pro-gun.
When people think of Virginia they either think of the southeastern part or north eastern part. However VA has consists of many rural areas and mountainous areas. The people living in these areas do a lot of hunting.
It is hard to believe VA borders Maryland and Wash DC which is so different in terms of the Second Amendment right. But then again, VA borders West VA, TN, and N.C.:)

Hello, I'm a life long Virginian and as previously said we have very gun friendly laws. We are shall issue, no magazine limitations or waiting periods. Also, I think we recently got rid of the 1 handgun per month rule. Political environment gets more liberal as you get closer to DC but still plenty of gun owners. Housing should be reasonable, like with the political environment, the further away from dc the better.

Edit to add:

BN is right, traffic is horrendous in the Northern Virginia area. You will grow to loathe the mere mention of 495, 66, 395 and 95. Getting anywhere takes an hour and God help you if there is an accident. To make this edit firearms related, I'm 23 miles from the range I shoot at and it takes me about an hour to get there.

Hope I didnt post this before.

Check out VCDL=Virginia Citizens Defense League. They can tell you all about VA gun laws.

Wish we had something like that in MI.

Shadi:

I'm guessing you're talking about the NRA headquarters. Depending on when you go, you might want to consider Sharpshooters down in Lorton, VA. I'm also in Alexandria, VA and it takes me 15-20min in light traffic, 30-45min in heavy traffic on 495W and 95S.

I've lived in Northern Virginia for almost 20 years now.

I was VERY lucky in buying where and when I did.

Traffic is bad, but I've come to appreciate the other ammenities that weren't available in the relatively rural where I grew up.

Of course, that cuts both ways, as well, as my home area has lots of things that this area doesn't.

Shadi,

One gun a mont is STILL Virginia law until 1 July! Don't try to buy two handguns in one month until then or you can be prosecuted.

Purchase and read 'The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide.'

ALL Virginia lethal force law is case (common) law.
Even for the police.

It is a very good collection.

About the only thing missing is any type of restrictions on civil action in otherwise legitimate shootings, though it has not really been much of an issue.

I lived in Virginia for a space of around 25 years, broken up by various times. I have lived in VABeach, NOVA, Shenandoah Valley, Appalachian Mountains and I actually grew up halfway in Lynchburg and it was a nice enough town.

Although the laws are the same all over the state each area is quite a bit different. OC in Norfolk for example will result in the police coming out and hassling you. NOVA used to be the same way although I hear it has changed in recent years.

West of Charlottesville not many people will care although you might get some odd looks or strange reactions. I was OCing when I went to buy a frig at Lowes in Waynesboro for example. When I went back to pick it up the security camera guy called the PU desk guy and asked if there was a problem...

We both had a good laugh about me stealing a frig and having them load it for me on my trailer.

On your AR open carry is not unlimited...
