Gun stolen, what to replace it with?

Hello all,
I recently(last night) had a break in while me and my fiance were at work, it happened later in the evening and we lost some small electronics and two handguns. These two handguns happened to be me and my fiance's current carry weapons. Luckily for me though, I recorded the serial numbers, had ejected cases from both and even captured bullets for both so I'm not really worried about being implicated in a crime that they may be involved in later. There's even a small iota of a chance that I may see them again(again, very small. I doubt that they'll ever rear their heads again to be truly honest).

But on to the point of this post. As of right now we have one gun to our collective names, a smith and wesson 422 22lr pistol(the long barreled target version). I'm not too keen on leaving my defense solely up to this one gun and that still leaves my fiance essentially defenseless when shes on her own. So my question is this: What two guns could we buy that would be reliable enough to carry but affordable enough so we can save up enough money to rebuy our favorites (or maybe even regain our old ones (fingers crossed))?

I previously carried a Springfield XDM9 with some extra bells and whistles, she carried a lady smith 357. I have previously carried a heavy 4506-1 but went with XDM9 because it felt nice. She previously carried a Bersa but couldn't really hit much with it(cross dominant and doesn't like three dot).

TLDR:Our carry weapons were stolen. We need temporary replacements until we can afford the ones we like. they need to be reliable and affordable and possible to be carried(doesn't have to be the perfect carry gun). Doesn't really matter if they are revolvers or semi auto.
Suggestions?

Thanks all!

For affordable, well-backed reliability, examine Ruger.

Look at the LCP, LCR, LC9, SR9c and SR40 c

Costs will be 300 to 400 each depending, so an even (as a couple) thousand to buy them, shoot them, and holster them.

Best of luck!

Whats the budget? I have a 4506 and as much as I love that gun and as awesome a piece as it is I dont know how you carried that thing concealed. I did twice and it was just to big to keep it up. My carry pistols were relatively cheap and I can easily reccomend 2. The Smith & Wesson Shield9 which has been an awesome gun and the tried and true Smith & Wesson 638 which is my 98% edc. I purchased both new for less then $450.00 with tax.$409.99 for the Shield and $329.99 for the 638. If cash is really tight and you want something new look at the Taurus 85 or even the Rossi 462. They are not that bad and a cheap solution to hold you over till they can be replaced. More details could help with suggestions though.

Thieves often strike the same place again soon after. I'd budget for a proper gun safe along with replacement guns.

yeah like the last poster suggested a gun safe first
you can pick up inexpensive safes at harbour freight for 30 dollars. if properly secured to a solid wall it will offer at least minimal security. For a couple of hundred dollars you can pick up a proper safe, but again you will need to mount it securely or they just take the whole box to beat open someplace else.

having said that. What is the budget for temporary guns? Are considering full size or compact? new or used?its such a wide open target area would help to narrow it down a bit for better suggestions.

I've gone throughthis too, like the others have said a safe is the next buy. if the perps have a brain they know you will buy replacements and they may be back. your insurance should have the value of your stolen guns so this should help the budget. Sorry for your loss.

I would definitely look at used if you just want temp guns. As an aside, Bersa makes some great guns on the cheap. Sorry about the loss.

Not knowing what you were carrying before, I say buy a few used Taurus revolvers in 357 / 38. If an auto is what you seek, buy a few used Glocks. All can be had for at or under $400.

If your Fiance carried a Lady Smith, she probably would be comfortable with a airweight 637. The can be had for about $375 new and are basically the same gun as she had before except .38 special instead of .357. It is my daily carry and I have yet to feel under-gunned.

My favorite CCW at the moment

Go to the pawn shop and get a S&W Sigma or its new replacement (I think its been updated to the HD or SD something or the other).

LGS might have them as well.

Fairly inexpensive and pretty good guns.

Begs the question of cousre why not just get idneitl replamcents or what you wnat? Even a low cost gun that is not going to be kept and loose on the resale vs keeping.

And as mentioned, you should have at least a mini safe and well attached to something.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look at jgsales, seems reasonable. The sad part about this situation is that both guns were in a wall safe. They found it and busted the safe right in the bedroom. the reason we can't just rebuy our favorites is because we also want to invest in a better safe, one that requires more than a crowbar and a drill to get into. So we are probably about to drop 2500+ for safe and guns since we refuse to buy our .guns until we protect them properly.

Is that how they got in your safe? Can you share what type it was? A real safe or sheetmetal locker?

When you say wall safe, I think behind a painting. Is that accurate? I think most theives if given a little time will knock paintings off the wall looking for a safe like that.

Sounds like the perps knew you had guns, knew they were in the safe, knew where the safe was and knew ya'll were at work.
You might ought to hide your safe in a better place and not tell or show it to anyone.
Circulate the descriptions and serial numbers to Pawn Shops, at Gun Shows and put them in the Newspaper, you never know. Also if, if you recover the guns file charges I don't care who the perps turn out to be.

$2500 ... hmmmm one can buy a few guns for that much. Why not buy a used handgun for say around $350 ... like a Ruger LCR. Always take your next one with you. A lock box secured in the trunk of your car for when you are at work, if that is a no-no.

not knowing where you live
here in Florida there is a chain called tractor supply store.
Picture a redneck nirvana, with well redneck supplies.

however, you can get excellent gun safes there and I do mean SAFE's with fire ratings and lots of amenities inside for gun storage.
the average cost of a really NICE one there is 599 and you can order from their web page! Hope it helps you find a decent gun safe.

your mileage may vary with location but they have been one of the few places that I have seen other than a gun show where you can actually walk in and touch safes to see how they feel and look inside.
