I live in California, which requires all personal firearm sales (long guns as well as handguns) to go through an FFL dealer.I would still love to hear from folks from the states that require the FFL for personal sales.
This is a royal pain in the ass for several reasons. First, you have to find an FFL willing to handle the transfer. Many will not for various reasons (such as having to store the firearm in their safe for the ten-day waiting period). Second, the FFLs who will handle private transfers often charge ridiculous fees--$150 is not uncommon where I live.
