Gun Show Attendance

Apparently, some guy's selling 30-round AR-15 magazines at a premium because the "ban" is coming

Seen a few things like that at gunshows, or just heard things that were flat out untrue.

But I'm sure at the same time there's a car salesman telling someone a car gets better mileage than it does too.

I usually go to the gun shows on Sunday, because the crowd is smaller. Yeah right. The last 4 months it has been packed. I can't complain to much. Since I am a member of the gun club that puts on the gun show. I don't have to wait in line or pay an entrance fee.

Attendance seems pretty high here too. Went to the big Portland, OR show a couple of weeks ago, the lines for admission weren't atypically long, and the parking situation didn't seem worse than usual but once inside, it seemed far more crowded than typical. Hard to move around even. It definitely appears like attendance is up; I haven't been to that particular gun show in several months (it's a monthly 3-day show) but I recall there being times when they had to do a "ladies get in free" type promotion just to get more people into the show... and even then attendance was unimpressive. The last one was packed even without offering free admission to ladies.

There is however, I believe, a fast growing interest in our sport/ hobby, which is good IMO.

I think that is a lot of it. We have a LOT of soldiers and former soldiers from 10 years of dual wars in the population now. Many of them like guns. And I think this current generations of 15-35 year olds has a revived interest in guns.

Look at all the gun programs on cable TV these days. Look at the ever increasing number of conceal carry permits. I think most of this is just due to a successful effort on all our parts to get more young people involved. They've discovered the mainstream PC media is full of crap about guns and they enjoy shooting and owning them for defense as well.

The other factor is today's shooters are not like those in the 1960s shooting a box or two per year. Many guys are going out and running through several boxes per range trip. I still have some of my Dad's ammo from the 1960s--he never shot it all and he rarely had more than four boxes any caliber. Same with firearms. I grew up in a house with more guns than typical, but it was one rifle and shotgun per hunter, and a couple of .22s. Nowadays many of like to have a variety of guns and calibers, and even some redundancy (per Murphy).

I'll bet the number of guns bought and rounds of ammo shot per year, per shooter, is many times today what it was thirty years ago or even ten years ago. Finally, prepping is becoming more popular not just for stocking up on guns but tools, supplies, everything.

We should be thrilled there are so many more shooters today. Makes supplying that demand more of a problem, but what a nice problem to have.

I would have to agree with the fact that there is a lot of political influence behind this and the scare of "the ban". I just came back from a gun show 2 days ago and it was filled wall to wall with people. Also while we are the topic of gun shows you should check out the "Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot" sometime if you guns are a passion of yours. You won't find a better display of some real american firepower and a VERY large selection of vendors and private sellers. Bring $300 and you can go try out a flamethrower if you have always wanted to :)

My brother went to a gun show in Sacramento area over the weekend. He went just to browse and get some reloading supplies, but was overwhelmed by the number of people crowding around the ammunition tables and the handtruck loads thy were carting off. He said prices were too much for him to play at this time.

He chatted with a guy standing around who turned out to be the brother of one of the guys with an ammo table. He asked what is going on. The reply was "Everyone is concerned that Obama is going to be re-elected."

Who knows if that is an accurate observation, conjecture or marketing ploy. Personally I have heard no one speculate about the election and effect on firearms or supplies. Seems weird there is so little chatter but a whole lot of buying going on. Maybe its the "get mine first then talk about later" strategy.

Took me a few years to gradually accumulate a stock level I like so I'm not worried about it but does seem to be much different scenario this time around

Good point NWPilgrim! Four more years of Obama- who, at that point, will have nothing to loose... He will put the petal to the mat is pushing his agenda
