The link below provides archived video from this year's Gun Rights Policy Conference, which happened this past weekend (Sept 23-25) in Chicago, IL. Gun rights activists from all over the country converged on the city to discuss ways to expand firearms freeedom in America.

Incidentally, this was the first time I had ever attended this conference, but it sure won't be the last. I'm never going to miss it again if I can help it. The Second Amendment Foundation supplies the venue, arranges the speakers, provides all meals, and gives all attendees a huge stack of books -- all FREE simply for coming to learn more about ways to protect human rights as they relate to firearms ownership. It was an incredibly valuable weekend and I'm glad I attended.

Chicago was a very deliberate choice. The GRPC has (almost) always been held in anti-gun cities, because the Second Amendment Foundation believes in active advocacy of firearms rights. They are not fighting a holding motion or a retreat! The intent has historically been to bring the fight right into the "belly of the beast" and to carry the message into the anti gunners' strongholds.

This year, there was a particular reason to choose Chicago, as the very successful McDonald case was a tremendous national victory for firearms rights at the Supreme Court level -- but it was fought and won by some very brave people who live in Chicago and agreed to be plaintiffs in the case. There are many other state and local cases currently working through the system that will have national effects. The brave folks fighting those battles need and deserve to know that the rest of us have not abandoned them & their town to the forces of evil. Or, to quote one of the speakers at the event:

"It's great to be back in Chicago, the scene of the crime in so many of our cases..." ~ Alan Gura

Ah, I figured probably. I must live under a rock. Never even heard of this conference.

That Gura quote would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.
 
Awesome! I went to one of their events years ago and they took us to shoot some full auto guns. I guess that didn't happen in Chicago?

I think holding the conference in Chicago was a good idea, but am curious to know if it got much coverage in the local media. I just did a Google search and found plenty of references in gun rights blogs and websites, but nothing that looked like a newspaper or television story.

Did any local reporters show up?

Not sure on that. I overheard some folks talking about local coverage, so am pretty sure there was some, but the weekend went by in such a blur that I didn't have the TV on at all.
