I've been "polled" a couple of times in my life and I usually end up arguing with them. Stats are typically manipulated to say what the person paying for them wants, or never published when they can't be. A waste of time is what it boils down to in my opinion.

Heck, I may be a little extreme, but I won't even verify security information on any inbound call, like from my bank.

That's not extreme, that's smart. My wife and I have been called no less than 6 times in the past 8 years from someone claiming to be from the bank. When we told them we'd call back using the number on the back of the card or from the website, they immediately hung up, and when we did call, the bank wasn't trying to contact us at all.

Okay so most of the replies have talked about phone surveys. A lot of these surveys were conducted door to door. Would your answers be any different under those circumstances?

Yeah, I'm just polling on how many TVs, nice watches, fine jewelry, and guns you have in your house.

...oh, and are you employed, if so what are your work hours?

Door-to-door? Not only would I not answer the question, I'd make it clear that I don't care for strangers showing up at my door uninvited.

I dont have anything to hide. Owning multiple guns is legal. I dont mind people asking me a question or stopping by the house. Ive worked hard for a long time and Im a proud gun owner.

I don't hide the fact that I'm an avid hunter and gun owner. Most people find out within 20 minutes of meeting me.

That said, I'm not going to tell some random kid on college break that I have guns in my home. There isn't a chance in the world.

If I don't know you, and I don't get a good read on you, you will never know and you will NEVER be invited into my house.

Oh, I don't hide the fact that I own guns. . . from folks I know. I do have to have a minute to get a bead on someone, though. Everyone I work with knows I have guns. I'm "the gun lawyer" in the office. I take vacation days to go hunting. It's not a secret when I go to the range. Someone knocking uninvited at my door holding a clipboard . . . that's a different matter altogether. I'm always concerned that they're casing me and my place for a future robbery. Not that I have a whole lot of stuff worth stealing, but I'm not about to give them that information.

I'm not going to tell some random person if I own guns, or anything else expensive, that being said, I'm from Texas, owning guns is a requirement.

I open the door, ask their business, and if it were a survey I'd say I have more important things to do goodbye. Politely, and as I close my door, I would slide my pistol into my back pocket so I can turn the dead bolt.

This is all making it very clear to everyone involved, I hope, that these polls simply cannot be delivering accurate numbers.

Over the phone, or door-to-door, I would let them know its none of thier business, and to not contact me again.

It's nobody's business but mine as to what I posess, be it firearms, t.v.'s, clothing brands, or my favorite shampoo.
