My safe is in my basement for a couple reasons. One, I just don't have room anywhere else, two you have to go through the rec room to get to where the safe is and I can lock that door to make the safe extra secure, and three that's where I built my little shop to work on them.
I keep a dehumidifier right next to the safe on high running 24/7. That alone as kept them dry but as someone who is very picky about his firearms I also keep four silica packs in there as extra protection for the guns and to make sure my ammo stays dry.
