OK... I'm back...

First off what qualifies you to be the concealment expert.
Your post is written as though it's the beginning an end of the subject.
My friend you have not scratched the surface.
The major missing subject being pocket holsters.
Another missing subject is carrying without a holster.

A title does not an expert make.

Update

Of course I'm not the beginning and end of the topic, and yes the surface has barely been scratched.

Actually I did go over Inner Pocket considerations. I also hit on the fact that if you carry without a holster you should feel comfortable that nothing can influence the pistol as it's worn.

Again, just trying to answer the GENERAL questions that get asked to me the most often. I posted these threads so that people can ask more in depth questions on the subject.

The main reason I bring this up is that most pistol injuries sustained in the US are from peoples own firearms. This topic directly relates to one of the principle causes.

Not trying to be cool here guys, just trying to get knowledge out there that can hopefully help prevent more injuries.

Thank you for the criticism again. It's what helps make sure the posts are done right.

Who has a question?

Alex... I mean no disrespect my friend, but you may want to re-think this whole Holster expert thing. This is a tough crowd your playing to. I have learned from reading posts that many of these guys, and yes gals too have been there, done that, and have the scars to prove it.

As far as being tactical... I think you may have confused the term with the current fashion show that pass' for tactics these days. As I said many of these folks are the real thing. This isnt some bunch of teenagers in the garage playing vidio games. There are some proven, and hard men and women populating this forum. Many who have my respect... and that dont come easy. As well there are some fairly famous writers on the subject that are regular members. Again... it's a tough room.

So if it's a joke... Ha ha ha ha ha... ya got me. If not?... Brace yourself!

A joke? I don't think so, Glenn. This is all very ho-hum to you or I, but most people aren't firearms experts like you or I. It would prove very informational to the novice. Besides, that's what these forums are for.

Glenn, I'm not sure what your angle is here. You're coming off like this thread has offended you. The fact that the OP doesn't have 3000 posts doesn't mean much. I think this thread has value for somebody that's starting with no knowledge of the subject.

That's me. General handgun newbie so "I" find the info helpful, and for the record I don't see where he said anything about being THEE expert, the first and last word on the subject, or even stating what would be The Best. I would think he would need to be guilty of at least one of the above to warrant drawing the ire of other "experts".

Anyway, since I've yet to decide on a carry holster, or even make a final decision on what handgun would be occupying said holster, rage on brother...I could use the input. :)

Tactical Alex, looks like you've made a good start. I hope you continue and that other holster devotees chime in.

Personally I use a one size fits all canvas holster for open carry and a no name shoulder holster or pocket carry for concealed.

I am torn between things here.

I understand the newer members (not newbies, I hate that term), might enjoy all the information here. But, I also highly doubt that we need to know that leather has been around for awhile.

So, torn. My gut feeling is that if most of the knowledgable members here were to write that, they might be knowledgable, but maybe lack writing skills and break things down to the lowest denominator.

My gut feeling about the post is that anyone remotely interested in holsters could get the basic info on a goodle search. I am not going to be negative here. If it was me, I might have waited and have gotten some credibility on the forum before I posted it.

I only have 3 holsters. I am sure some of the major senior guys have plenty that they don't use and thought it was a viable product at the time. That is the info I like to read here. I like mistakes. Senior members can spend their money and help me save mine by their experience.

I have no problem with the post. No ridicule, but I wonder what the motivations were for it? Is Tactical about to launch a new line of Holsters? I do have a problem with someone with so few posts coming off as the holster master.

Fact is that we're talking. The purpose of forums is to exchange and channel information. I fully realize that I'm not "established" with the forum, but you have to start somewhere. For those of you that were wondering my personal carry methods are: I prefer a paddle, serpa holster for my external or duty carry with a full sized pistol, usually glock 17 or Sig P226. When I'm concealed I carry a glock 19 IWB, appendix carry with a spare mag on the opposite side. I ALSO carry a glock 26 on my inner left ankle. If I find myself in a position where I can't easily draw 19 (like while driving my car) I can reach my 26 much easier. The reason I chose the pistols I did is that if for some reason I use the 26 I can still top off the pistol I have in my hand with the same spare magazine. I'm not really getting into flashlights, types of knives or multi-tools simply because that's not the topic here. Thanks for the feedback guys. I had a pretty good idea what I was getting into when I signed on. My best to you all, and let's keep the info flowing. Thanks again.

Don't sweat it Alex. If Bob Munden started posting on here someone would say something negative. Nature of the beast...

I bear no ill will towards Alex, or anyone else.
Most discussions are at least two sided.

The post is IN MY OPINION material taken from books, or articals written by others. The post is the form of an infomertial for his budding holster manufacturing company. I'm fine with all of that. The poster claims to be a tactical expert. Tactical Alex has made two posts on the same subject in two different topics. This is the surviving thread, so I'm pretty much commenting on both posts here...

I have nothing against new people... Heck I'm fairly new to the forum myself. One reason I post is to share my experiences, and learn from others. Like I say... This in my opinion is a bright group.

I do however take issue with bad, incorrect, and incomplete information from someone who claims expert status. I'm not jumping on him, picking on him, angry with him or anything like that. I am disagreeing with some of his information, and the tenor it was presented.

I'm not an expert at anything other than ******* off my employers. However I do have extensive experience with firearms, and mode of carrying the same.

The issue I have with this post is that someone may accept it as good, reliable information. The author comes out of nowhere and attempts to "educate" people. Had he been responding to a question about different carry options, that would have been one thing. The tone of the artical is that the writter sees himself as an experianced expert. Im confused about 2 terms used in the writers first attempt at posting on the subject of holsters. In 35 years of shooting, I have never hears the terms "inner waist band" holster or "outer or over waist band" when refering to holsters. I do know what 'inside the waistband' and 'outside the waistband' holsters are.... Lack of knowledge of basic terms commonly used in an industry does not serve to establish your credability or claimed expertise.

From your public profile:
US Army everything from Infantry to Recon and a few other more specialized fields. After my years as an Operator I switched to a more ecducational role as a Tactical Instructor.

A statment like this does little to establish your bonafides as well. In 20+ years of working with and around some of the top tier soldiers this country produces (no, I am not one of them, just on the fringes of the community), I have never heard one refer to himself as an 'operator' in a public venue. The quiet professional is more to standard. Most also know how to spell. Im not a spelling nazi, I make my share of typos and spelling errors. But at least take the time to proof your public profile.

I do think the the basic concept of the original posts was fine, and contained some good infomation. However, the author, in my opinion, shot himself in the foot by making glaring errors, some typos, some demonstrating a lack of knowledge.

I'll tell you what. Because I came into a forum with such a knowledgeable group and tried to jump in with some GENERAL information on topics; I will admit that I hinted at some of my past duties with the hopes those that knew what those hints meant would just ask a few questions which I'd be happy to answer to gain the credibility that I know I wouldn't have as a new person to the forum. I'm still open to any questions someone might have, and I'll tone down my profile for you since it seems offensive.

I would like to remind people that the main purpose of these two links was to attack a GENERAL question that seems to be one of the most common asked by my students. I tried to purposely not lean towards one option or another just present some factors that each individual should consider when they're trying to decide on a choice for themselves.

If you don't mind I'd like to see the topics turn away from ATTACKING the poster and turn towards other opinions on the same topic. I am NOT the end all of anything of this nature, NO ONE can be. I do think that by addressing the topic in a general way to start it will open the forum to questions, experiences, or opinions within this topic. That is the way that the other person who just checks on the forum for the information will be able to get more out of it.

If you wish to go after me then by all means, send me a message, or heck start up a whole new forum and call it the "Tactical Alex Bashing room" but my purpose with this post is to help people who turn to The Firing Line for information to answer questions as I have done in the past before deciding to become a member.

By the way next time I post something like this I promise I'll word doc it first and do a better proof read. I'll take all the hits for the initial mistakes that started this whole mess. If you do find more please bring them up so I can fix the post. Won't happen again.

I was out of line

Alex-
You bring up a valid point. There is rarely anything to be gained by personaly attacking somebody, and that was not my intent. Your first posts here seemed (in my opinion) to be designed to establish credibility, rather to inform or educate. I also think it was poorly written and contained erroneous information. Again, this is just my opinion on your origional posts.
That said, in hindsight my earlier comments were not productive to the topic at hand and could easily be seen as a personal attack. Since I posted the comments in a public venue, I'd like to offer my apology in that same venue. They didn't serve to further the topic in any way.
My free advice (worth exacty what you paid for it) would be this: When one becomes becomes part of a group, the 'in like a lion' approch rarely works well. Had your post been in response to a question about CC holsters, rather than initiating a thread on the subject, I doubt it would have been so poorly recieved. Take the time to establish yourself here; share your experiances in applicable threads. Well though out comments will go far here.

Like I said I knew what I was getting into. Very kind words, and that said, you said there's some information you don't think is quite accurate or relevant. I'd love to discuss those items.

I'm used to be tested, judged, and the like. If you know anything about the people I teach then you'll see why it's quite common place. No harm no foul and thanks for that last post.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please allow me to offer my most sincere apologies.

As with the other thread I'm trying this a different way with hopes for better results.

Once again Alex... This isnt personal. First off I'd like to personally thank you for your service to the country. Secondly I'd like to try and take the edge off the conversation.

I understand your position. As an instructor, and experienced solder I can accept your level of expertice. I just dont agree with some of the information you bring, or the way you present it.

Maybe a discussion on the different kinds of holsters, and the pro and con of each style. Sometimes it may be difficult to transition from one ingrained skill-set where there was little choice to one where the choice is infinate. Such as military to the civilian world.

Given your description of various holsters I see you may have little or no experience with a few of them. Again I have my own opinions... Based on my own training and experience. I'm looking forward to a lively discussion on this subject with you. Again I do thank you for serving the greatest Army in the world for the greatest country in the world.

Glenn D.

I think some of you have missed the point of the OP. Although many of us, myself included, have extensive experience in the carry and handling of handguns, not everyone is as fortunate, and the less experienced are the ones the OP was aiming (pardon the pun) his post at. If you can benefit from the information, then so be it. If not, then just move along. I feel the negative commentary is undue and unfounded. Alex, I appreciate and understand your intent.:)
