Gun gaffes in novels?

Another vote for Donald Hamilton--he knew his stuff in the Matt Helm books. (He certainly hated the 'sawed off aluminum .38 revolvers!) I particularly liked his politically incorrect statements which were sprinkled through his books like chocolate chips.

His women always had 'character'--of one sort or another--too.

An interesting project. I might do the same down here. Gives me an excuse to re-read them. ("I'm not sitting reading again, dear, I'm carrying out serious literary research" ;))

As to King's actual feelings towards guns, I dunno -- I didn't like the following quote from "The Regulators":

quote:
We're careful because we understand the potential a gun has to maim and kill, Johnny thought, but it's more than that. On some level we know they're evil. Devilish. Even their biggest fans and partisans sense it.
I appreciate it's a character speaking, but even so ...

David Hackworth in his latest book, "The Price of Honor" called some MP5s semi-automatic submachine guns. WTF? Is that a contradiction in terms or an oxymoron? Still, it's a pretty good book.

Hey Hard Ball, Colonel Nick Fury (the director of the Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-Enforcement Division) carries a 9mm parabellum Walther PPK all of the time.

Bruce, don't mention those dbl barrel pump shotguns or they will add them to the banned list out here in kalifornia, I was hoping they would never find out about mine, I guess I will have to bury the 20round 10ga magazines.Though I will take the nightvison laser "sniper" scope off of it first and just use it on my single aciton semi auto. ;)

Brings a whole new meaning to "is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me" :D

Found it!!

It was in The Regulators all along -- (pp. 54 and 55 my edn).

quote:
He wears a buckskin trapper's shirt with a bandolier belt across it ... He is standing, this fellow, and in his hands is a heavy double-barrelled shotgun.

(snip irrelevant text)

The guy in the buckskin shirt opens up, firing three times, pumping his weapon rapidly after each shot and then reshouldering it.
Someone should teach him to keep the gun in his shoulder between shots, too ;)
