Gun for the Wife...

My wife carries a PF 9 but she has strong hands, (long pull). Bersa would probably be a good choice for a beginner.

The replys you got back are correct. Let her check a few out, and even try if she can. More info would also help. Target, home, defense, or just having fun. If your not to stuck on the 9mm which is a great caliber there right, a smaller cal might be better. But no one will know except your wife, and what she likes. It is great having your wife as a shooting partner. Mine is, and it gets me out alot more. Trying to get her into reloading. I figure if I can watch, and help her make two for deer season, when she gets a deer she will know she made the bullet. I figure that also will help me out two. Last year she shoot at two and got them both. Who knows maybe your wife might want a bigger caliber, and like a few replys said some training, and classe's are great two take, you could even go with just for the support. As we all know safety is the big one with handguns. I think it is great she is interested in it. Good luck, have fun, and keep it safe!

Women are individuals, just like men are.

Just because some other woman halfway across the country likes some specific firearm doesn't mean your wife will.

Just because 1,643 other women like the gun doesn't mean your wife will.

If a million other women jumped off a bridge, would your wife do it too? (Sorry ... just channelling my mom there for a moment! ) ;)

What I'm getting at is that the only opinion that really matters here is the one belonging to your wife. You need her opinion far more than you need those of anyone else in this thread.

But as far as finding guns for her to try, here are a few within the category you suggested (small 9mm):

Glock 26
Glock 17
XD-9 subcompact
XD-9 compact
Kahr P9
Kahr CW9
S&W M&P subcompact
(replaceable grip panels makes this one very attractive for those who may need to share guns between shooters with different size hands)

Those are all going to come in at different price points & I don't know the market in your area. Keep in mind, though, that unless your wife has expressed an interest in carrying the gun, as long as the gun fits her hands she's probably going to be more comfortable shooting a heavier, larger gun than she will be a shooting a lighter or smaller one. Just the way the physics of recoil works.

Do go read my earlier link.

Whatever choice you make make sure she tests shoots it first. I recently bought my wife a Ruger LCP. After taking her to shoot she decided she didn't like it as much as she thought and decided she liked my Glock 26 better. So much for trying to please a woman. Lol.
