Hey guys...new to the forums. Im having trouble trying to find something affordable in a small 9mm that my wife would like using...can you make some suggestions?

Lots of similar threads on this, try a couple searches with pistol for wife or similar.

We also need more info, price range, etc. And whether or not your wife is familiar with guns. If she is not, you're not gonna get too many people on here offering suggestions other than to get her trained. Also, the most popular suggestion you'll get is to take her to the gun store/range and let her pick the one that she likes best.

Let her decide

Let her shoot as many different guns as she can. A range with a rental is the best option. Let her decide on her gun. IMVHO.

you need a trip to the range to let her try it out. mostly any 9mm will be in the 400-600 range. everyone who asks this gets the same answer, go to the range, find what you like, fire it, buy it if you want.

What rjrivero said. I kept pushing my wife toward a Kahr 9mm that had a fairly small grip, but she decided that she didn't like it. So we just went down the line at the range over the course of a couple of weeks. Her favorite was the Taurus M66 in .357 mag. Go figure.

FWIW, she consistently outshoots me at the silhouette matches with the .22s.

took my wife to the shop..had her handle several different firearms, no real budget in mind. walked out with a keltec p-11, $260. i preferred the p-9 due to the single stack, but she like the extra capacity. and no other gun felt as comfortable in her hand. and she's carrying it, and that's what counts. the DAO pull is heavy, but she likes it.

my point? just like everyone above me posted, she's gotta like it and want to shot/carry it. we can offer suggestions, but she's going to have to make the final yes or no! get her to a shop/range and play all day! it'll be well worth it!

I'll add another for the Bersa 380. My wife loves her concealed carry model and can't stand any others (even my G19, go figure). I'd recommend a G26 if 9mm is necessary. Hopefully you live somewhere where the ranges rent a lot of different guns (not so where I'm at). You'll just have to suffer through multiple range trips so she can try some. Life's tough, huh?:D

I tried to get a gun for my wife but she freaked out and wouldn't let me trade...:D:eek:
Seriously she liked the size and feel of my old P-85 9mm ruger but felt it was pretty much the max in the recoil dept.

IMO

If you have a local 'rental range' take her there and let her try everything that feels comfortable in her hand.... the more she tries out, the more confident she will be to make a choice (educated) when she is ready to choose..... don't push her to get what YOU want to see her get, let her get what she wants.... she can always trade up later :D

Good on her for being interested, tell her to take her time choosing ;)

My wife finally expressed an interest in shooting some kind of firearm for the first time in her life. Up til now, she has never so much as looked at a gun other than to move one if she was dusting or something. So, I showed her once again my collection (which she refers to as "all those guns") and explained to her the relative merits of each one. She had no desire to even hold a rifle of any kind. After showing her the various handguns and their ammo, she allowed as how MAYBE she could shoot the 22 magnum. Cool, so I took her out with an H&R 676 with a 7.5" barrel. Thish was my very first handgun I had ever fired back 30 years ago. I have put thousands of rounds through it and it still has a sentimental attachment to me.

Long story short, I was astounded at how well she could shoot it. Mostly I just wanted her to be safe and experience the feel of launching a bullet. Shoot, by about the 3rd shot, she was hitting pop cans from 25'. By the second cylinder, she was hitting them about every 4 out of 6 shots. After about 30 rounds she could hit a pop can nearly every time.

I don't think she will ever be a fanatic, but at least she knows how to shoot and can understand the enjoyment that the rest of us get from it. She was not interested in shooting anything else, not even a 38. That's fine. She now proudly shows "her" 22 mag pistol to her friends, although she does seem to be mystified when she hears about how it takes hundreds or thousands of practice rounds to become proficient.

Im having trouble trying to find something affordable in a small 9mm that my wife would like using...can you make some suggestions?

That's three different criteria there. I think when you're all done, you're going to have to give on at least one.

Affordable -- Keltec PF-9 or PF-11, EAA's Tokarev clone.

Small -- how small is "small", in your opinion?

"Wife would like using" -- that you'll have to ask her.

My wife is a revolver girl. She carries a S&W J frame .38 or if I'm not looking she will steal my Ruger Security Six snub .357:D The ONLY pistol of mine she enjoys shooting is a SIG P6. The are great used 9mm's and they can be found for between $325-400.

Lots of references already to letting her choose, and also the ability to handle a 9mm recoil.

True Story:

My nephew let his wife try out 9mm's. Too much gun. Then .380's. Too much gun. Then .22's. Too little gun.

She decided on a Bersa Firestorm .32acp. Just right. Then Goldilocks settled in for a long nap.

after training 2 of my 5 sisters with a .22LR revolver and my Ruger semi-auto I let them shoot my .380acp BDA (unfortunately those are scarce) and they handled it well so they bought CZ 83's. "I pity the fool" they are popping caps at. an aluminum pie plate at 20' is full of holes quick-like too.
I've let them shoot my Beretta .32acp they didn't care for it, I CCW it when in shorts and such. pocket carry. the CZ fits their pocket-books OK but a single stack may be a better choice.

Doodlebugger45:
My girlfriend also loves my 7.5" H&R 676. Wonderful guns, they are. I'd trade off a Single Six convertible for one any day.*

* Well, I'd probably sell the Ruger, buy a 676 and use the remaining money for something else.
