Gun cleaning solvents?

yess well worth thier weight in gold i prefer gun scrubber my self for the cleaning aspect it comes out hard enough to blast away the places you cant get to really well without fully disassembly. Give it a try i belive you will be satisfied

I use Shooters Choice, and Hopees #9.
They are both very good for cleaning copper fouling out of your barrel, and I like them because I shoot corrosive ammo, in my C&R rifles, as well as black powder.
I recomend using it when cleaning, also very good for rust removal.

As mentioned above...

Shooter's Choice and Hoppe's.

Most match barrels are cleaned between matchs and Hoppe's for hunting rifles.

Eezox or M-Pro7. Sometimes both (M-Pro7 first). Then some synthetic oil and run a dry patch through after that. After each range session.

I have been using Hoppes Nine for many years. If I need to clean something really nasty I use non chlorinated brake cleaner from the Auto Parts store. It is the same thing as Gun Scrubber at a fraction of the cost. I think I paid about $2.50 for a 19 oz can as compared to Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber at about $8.00 for a 13 oz can.

I love Gunzilla. Cleans as well as Hoppe's 9 but without the fumes. Don't get me wrong, I love the smell of Hoppe's 9, it just gives me a headache after a while.

love the smell of hopes but theres much better bore cleaners out there. Shooters choice, sweets, montana xtream are good examples. I also use foam bore cleaners and they work real well. Just spray them in wait overnight and patch them out. Only problem with them is they tend to migrate into the action and gum things up so you about have to pull the gun apart and clean it anyway. If i had to pick only one to remover copper fouling it would be sweets.

I have to ask: If it has to soak overnight in order to do it's job and it gums everything else up to the point of requiring additional cleaning, then how is it better than Hoppes?:)

I have to be honest, with all the remarks about Hoppes odor, I had to get my bottle out and smell it. I don't see anything particularly noxious about the odor, in fact it had very little smell at all. I have had this bottle for years though, wonder if it has gone bad?

slappy the foam cleaners do a heck of a lot better job cleaning copper then hopes. What i use them for is when working up loads for a new gun. I shoot probably 50 rounds in a day go home foam the bore and leave it. The next day run a couple patches through and go shooting again. After im finished with load developement ill then pull the stock off and clean it well including the inside of the bolt. I basicaly pulled them down just like that before i used foams when i was done working up loads anyway so its no more work. I use more montana extream and sweets then anything though for most cleaning. Hoppes does well at powder fouling but is a poor copper remover.

Holy millionth thread batman

Hoppes, Hot water to rinse, Remoil

Hoppes smell is VERY strong. I love it.

A couple of my cleaning kits have the most famous alternate "Breakfree CLP" but i've yet to try.

Shelf life...

I was wondering if these solvents have a shelf life. I have a large bottle of Hoppes #9 that is probably 20+ years old. If it is okay I will use it but if I have to toss it I will; is there a rule of thumb on these chemicals.
