Guard Dogs

American Staffordshire Terrier
Very friendly and lovable dog. Very quiet unless a stranger comes to the door. Stands guard when a stranger enters my house. Short hair so he doesn't shed much. Drawback is, he is very agressive towards other dogs.

Here's a pic of him!

How about an 85 pound Golden Retriever. Got a bark big enough to fill up the valley. 3 barks and he'll show you where the good stuff is hidden. :D

I prefer armed combat to unarmed combat. It's easier on the knuckles.

She's an 85-90 lb gold ret X german shepard. Likes just about everyone, except she hates uniforms. She never had pups of her own, but has adopted my baby as her own, extremely protective of him. If she doesn't know a person, she'll stay between them and the baby...closer than 6 feet, she'll start growling and baring her teeth.
If the baby isn't around, she'll greet you with exhuberance and want you to play. All of this is at about 99 decibels

We have a wonderful Rott./Black Lab mix. She's naturally suspicious towards strangers, but loving as possible towards family members; she loves kids. She goes nuts whenever my young nephews come over.

One of the best things about her is that she was free. I got her from an ex in-law, when she was about 2 years old.

She's one of the few dogs I've ever seen who'll actually watch t.v. She doesn't like other dogs, though, and she'll charge the t.v. whenever she sees one...or, for that matter, any other type of animal.

Fear my Pit Chihuahuas. Five lb. dogs with 3 lb. heads, all mouth and teeth. They hunt in packs. I let them out at night to feed.

Our female Boxer (Brandi) just turned 6 mo. old Sunday. 50 lbs. of muscle. Loves everyone. Rarely barks without reason. Starting to become more territorial and a little more agressive. Which I feel is a good thing. Because after the initial bark, she would slobber you to Death.

Second the motion on Akitas. I got one at the pound (!lucky day!). Well trained, great with the kids, but good protective instincts. And a bark of about 200db!

I think the sonic pressure from a full-on bark would render a BG immobile for 30 sec.

I knew OJ was guilty when I heard he had 2 Akitas that made no unusual noises the night of the murder. If it had been anyone they didn't know, they would've set off car alarms all over the city.

One each 16 month old, 65lb, female German Sheperd named Gretchen. I've owned and been owned by GSDs all my life and I was postitive that Gretchen was absent the day they passed out brains until about a month ago. 3am on a Saturday night, a jar fell off of a shelf in the garage. Gretchen, who was sleeping on her mat next to my wife's side of the bed, gave out one very sharp warning bark. I reached over and picked up my Hi Power and Mag-Lite and got out of bed to do the search. As soon as Gretchen saw what I had in my hand, she got serious. As I cleared the house, she never left my side, never got in my line, and never opened her mouth. All this with no real defensive, protective training. I gained a new respect for just how smart she is that night. I hope to have her as my house clearing partner for many years to come.

Pit Bull...Jake! But I didn't get "custody," the ex did. I miss him (the dog, that is :D)! He is VERY friendly, but when I take him hiking, nobody else has to know that! People give me a wide berth!

Five Chows and one four and a half month old female pure bred gray timber wolf, my second. She now weighs fifty pounds and seems to grow before your eyes.

Cindy's dawg (yes, Jake's a dawg, not a dog)makes me think that perhaps canis familiaris isn't such a bad critter after all. He's a good'un.

Every time this topic is revived, I get a little bit closer to getting a real house and a real dog. Someday... :(

We used to have a 75 pound Malamute mix with more fur than body. If someone he didn't like came near me or my wife he stand next to us and let out an almost inaudible growl. Nobody ever messed with us, but if they did he would have gone directly for the neck. No messing around. Smartest dog I ever met. Now all we have is my Treeing Walker coonhound. Loud mouth and a good dog.
