Grease and Why Grease? (threads merged)

Not looking for long term storage. I shoot very often. If grease will stay put better I will try using it in place of my oil. But corrosion protection is very necessary in these parts. The air is salty and humidity stays in the 90's for most of the year

Grease

Just did lots of searching and comparisons with commonly-available grease. Found that Mobil 1 red wheel bearing grease has a high degree of rust and corrosion protection and is rated NLGI 2. Applied in a thin layer, seems to coat nicely (just like oil) but certainly doesn't drip.

Grease

CountZreo... have to do some reading up on that... the piece I read was a marketing piece on Mobil 1... but ingredient list is pretty clear that it has rust and corrosion inhibitors

Grease

As an aside to this subject of grease. It just occurred to me that I've had occasion to send pistols back for repair. Most recently a Beretta and a FN Tactical, both came back lubed with grease. I suspect I've sent perhaps, 10-15 pistols back to manufactures for repairs over the years. I do not remember one that did not come back greased on the slide & wear points. A few ship new with grease, some essentially in a "bag" of oil. I have no idea why anyone would NOT use grease. By the way, when I say "grease" I mean specifically synthetic gun grease such as Wilsons, Sentry etc. I prefer the Sentry Hi-Slip as it's approved by the military for Seal and Specials Forces. Will not wash off in water, lubes and will not thicken at -65 F and continues to lube up to approx. 700 F. I'm no lube scientist but suspect the military has some, that test these sort of products. I absolutely love the stuff.
