(Graphic Pic.) If he had been carrying a 380 it might have gone between the toes...

I hope this guy has already gone to the doctor and set up all the necessary appointments for the skin grafts that will be necessary to close up that wound.

It cannot stay open like that.

And bacteria that is simply flying through the air ,let alone that from contact surfaces will be attacking it right now.

If that wound is not properly closed up and soon,it will get horrendously infected and the unfortunate shooter could well lose his whole foot.

Get to a doctor and fast!.

personally, i prefer he doesn't go to a doctor and continues to allow nature to take its course.

shooting himself in the foot is bad enough....but taking pictures of the injury instead of rushing to the hospital??? that idiot needs to exit the gene pool.

did he even go to a doctor? I'm stubborn when it comes to going to the doc but even I'm not that stubborn. he lost enough of his foot to stupidity why loose the rest to infection?

"Guy doesnt trim better hes going to get hangnails..."

"He should probably have that looked at..."

"He should have called a toe truck"

Enough! You guys are killing me and I may have wet my pants a little.

This makes the .500 magnum thumb injury look pretty lame. I hope nobody is eating chicken wings when they click on this.:barf::barf::barf:

Seriously, those pictures grossed some of you out? None of you hunt and blow holes in animals and then gut them and cut them up to eat? These pics are nothing compared to what I have seen as a firefighter/EMT. I would bet some of what I have seen would have some of you puking your intestines out. I guess I always assumed gun owners were a heartier crowd. Especially with all the bravado here about blowing away intruders.

On a side note, anyone that places a loaded, and even stupider, cocked weapon with the barrel resting on their body, is a f##king idiot.

A valid point. A firefight can be a damned disgusting place to be. And the aftermath can be worse, but it has to be dealt with.

I've been a pretty solid gunny now for about a decade but a daily biker (motorcycles) for over double that - and bikers have to learn the same lesson.

I *know* I can cope with first aid on disgusting wounds, from experience involving both myself and people I've successfully helped. No worries on that score.

You have to reference your source as I think I saw this described as caused by a 20 gauge with #6 birdshot. The shooter had rested the barrel against the top of his shoe which 'apparently ???' is permitted when shooting clays.

Assuming the shoe goes with the story, there are no powder burns on the shoe and so it does not look like the gun was resting on the toe of the shoe.

This guy has to be one of the dumbest people on the planet. Not only does he blow a hole in his foot (dumb) but then, goes home and photographs it before he goes to the hospital (much dumber!). Or, at least it appears that way. No doctor that I know would leave a foot with a hole like that undressed, with the bone exposed. That's a recipe for gangrene, loss of the entire foot, and even death.

naw...there is healing at the periphery of the injury. i see what looks to me like granulated tissue on the edges. chances are when the pic was taken he had already been sent home for some healing and the docs will address debridement and plastic reconstruction at a later date.

could be a 45 but very well could be a 'small' SG guage as well if it was..as the rest of the internet story goes..resting on his boot.

ive seen a few nasty gsw's ( gun shot wounds) in my day...45 to the groin via the belly button from a gang banger shoving it down his pants while sitting in a car after a drive by...dude lost the better part of his hand from pulling the trigger on a glock while disassembling it ( obviously did not chamber check)...a hunter who was crossing a barb wire fence and his dog somehow knocked his 12g down ( hunter had rested it against a post) and lost a big ole hunk of calf.

i too have seen this pix A LOT in the recent days...with all sorts of background to it.

Luckily I learned this lesson with a Red Ryder bb gun when I was 10 or so... unfortunately I had to learn it again when I was playing paintball and shot myself cause I got jumpy before the ref blew the whistle. Hopefully I never have to learn it with a real gun.

I have it on good authority that the gentleman in the picture is a billiards player looking for an edge in his game. Once everything heals up well, he can flop old 4 and 1/2 up on the green, chalk it up real good and he has a natural Cue Bridge for those competitions that do not allow extending bridges.
