A ..45 caliber round makes a pretty big hole, I can just imagine how the conversation went:
"Check out my new .45, it has a really great trigger pull"........nice squeeze .............Bang!!!!.................OUCH!"

Off to Walmart for some new shoes...and a book on how to handle handguns..

You have to reference your source as I think I saw this described as caused by a 20 gauge with #6 birdshot. The shooter had rested the barrel against the top of his shoe which 'apparently ???' is permitted when shooting clays.

At the very least this is certainly a front runner for the 2009 Darwin award in the firearm catagory.
 
I concur with the content advisory warning. That's gross and almost didn't make it past the pics (strong stomach and can eat anything, but I don't like the sight of blood).

He should have called a toe truck because he was obviously nailed. Now he has a bone to pick (Look! It's right there!), and wants to become un-holey. He'll have to foot the bill for this injury...what else...he'll remember it for life because he'll have toetal recall...

This was posted elsewhere (several weeks ago) as being a 12-gauge with the barrel rested on the shoe, and a subsequent ND.

Judging from the size of the hole in the foot, I'm far more inclined to believe that.

That is not a .45 hole--more Internet BS, IMHO.
 
Ouch. Although I'm sure the pain to one's pride is not to great either right now. Luckily, a helluvalot worse could have happened with a neglient discharge. I'd chalk this up to a very painful lesson learned.
