Grand Power P1 Mk7

RX, look at the pic of the barrels again.

Moving closer to the muzzle from the breech area, there is a big rounded lug that goes slightly over half way around the barrel.

When the barrel is rotated, this rounded lug will fit into slots in the slide. The result is that the barrel and slide are firmly locked together.

While the details differ from the current Beretta design (Px4 and earlier the Cougar) the idea is the same. And I was very impressed by the way the rotating barrel design reduced muzzle jump on the Cougar (9mm) and the Px4 (.40S&W).

So this gun excites me.

Congrats to all of you

So far nobody has mixed up the Republic of Slovenia (Slovenia) with the place where this gun was made, the Slovak Republic (Slovakia).

That says a lot about our forum members, as this has to be one of the easiest geographic mistakes a person can make these days.

Who still remembers when there was an Upper Volta, which had nothing to do with Nicola Tesla.

Yeah, I know how it works. I just wanted to see if it locks on just the ejection port of if the other barrel lug engaged a lug in the slide.

RX, I realized I screwed the pooch in my locking description earlier. How embarrassing :(

The barrel and slide will not lock into the frame, of course they will not. The gun would not operate if they did. I have amended my post and promise to think a little harder before I talk to you guys again.

Who searches for an an excuse. Low blood sugar levels, maybe?

More than likely it is a fine weapon, but I, for one, don't like to be a beta tester. Too many other proven weapons available on the market.

It is not exactly new, and I doubt the Slovakian military would adopt it otherwise w/o it proving itself.

But that's why I'm being the Guinea Pig for yall....

IIRC, this is the same basic gun STI was selling as the GP6, and the basic design has been around since '94; what do you consider a suitable 'beta' test?

I don't want to be the guinea pig looking for an authorized service center or replacement parts.

I'm sure the Slovakian armed forces don't have those problems, but Slovakia is in central Europe, not here.

And is why my CZ is my #1 EDC, with Steyr #2, Gyvel. But IF I have any issues and Century Arms is unable to get me parts, I've no problem sending an email or calling directly to Grand Power to get what I need.

Comparison with my CZ P-01....

Well, I finally got the GP back from the babysitter and decided to snap a few pics next to my P-01. I won't be able to do an actual range comparison for another few weeks, so I've been dry firing both of them quite a bit, SA and DA. The trigger on the Grand Power is still tops, but especially in DA, where it is noticeably a much lighter, smoother pull. So without a doubt my CZ's will eventually be getting some love from CGW, as the P-01and '14 P-07 are still my #1 & 2 choices for carry. 'Nuff said!

I've listed the trigger measurements from the starting point at rest, then when all slack is taken out of the trigger and you actually start hitting resistance, when the hammer is released, and how far out the reset is.

Also, I measured these from the centerpoint on the rear of the trigger, to the rear most inside of trigger guard (subject to correction). When possible, I will get the pull weights measured and list those asap.

P-01 (and my 2014 P-07):
SA Start: 10mm
SA Take up: 4mm
BANG: 2mm
Reset: 6mm

DA Start: 17mm
DA Take up: 15mm
DA ½ Cock: 12mm
BANG: 2mm

Grand Power P1 Mk7:
SA Start: 3mm
SA Take up: 1mm
BANG: 0mm
Reset: 2mm

DA Start: 13mm
DA Take up: 11mm
DA ½ Cock: 8mm
BANG: 0mm

Now for the customary pictures. CZ on left, Grand Power on right.

Here's a combo shot of the GP slide and frame, showing the rails and lugs for the rotating barrel.

Great review! Makes me want one even more.

Are there any large capacity magazines available that hold 17-19 rounds?
