GP100 vs Sr1911

primarily for recreation shooting and carrying while camping and the such.

Then definitely go with the GP to start. I would even say to pick up some CCI shotshells for snake/vermin if it becomes unavoidable.

For me the choice is the GP 100. If you want to use it for fishing or camping trips it gives you a very wide choice of ammo, from small game for the pot, snakes, 2 legged animals and so on...
My 4" GP100 is the revolver I shoot best.

I have both, paid more than most people would for both, and love them both.

You will enjoy them no matter which one you choose to buy first, even if you "overpay". It is worth what you are willing to pay. You saved the money to buy something you want. Both weapons will dispatch critters on a fishing or camping trip.

They're a lot of good used GP-100 out there. Find a good used one and save a few bucks. Then start the slush fund for the SR 1911. ;)

I haven't seen the "premium" on the price. I ordered mine and paid $650 - came in in two months.

Both are great guns. Consider the intended use, but I don't see any buyer's remorse in your future.
