Got my new Kimber today :(

:) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D Whew!
Now I don't feel bad about launching mine the first time. Kinda seems like a right of passage. I also have a FL rod. The plug is pretty sharp as someone previously said. I also have a stucco cieling. (Can you see where this is going yet?) I slid the bushing off and BAM. Stuck...right....in ....the....ceiling! Anyhow, I got that all taken care of then tried to put it back together. (ahem) Couldn't figure out how to get the bushing back over the plug. Damn thing went for a short flight again and took a small gouge out of the wall.

It's OK though, we're better now

Easy to find. Just get another one and the old one will show up soon.

Been there, done that.....multitudinous times.

LOL

Umm thats why my gunsmith gave me an extra plug...he knew this would happen...mine went in the washing machine banked that sucker off the open lid...KA..CHING! 2 pts

The second part of right to passage is scratching the frame putting the slide stop in...adds character. This way people know you've taken the gun apart and launched the plug.

Related but we could always tell when the guy at the skeet range was knew to 1100's....bandaid on index finger...left side of reciever is SHARP....we knew he had elected to clean

it is part of the fun,

best

Does the guide rod that comes with your gun have a hole in it? If so next time just put your gun in slide lock and insert a paper clip into it. That will hold it in palce and make the disassembly easier. If not then either replace it with one that does or drill a hole in your existing guide rod or buy a two piece.

I have launched my Kimber's twice this week! I'm glad everyone else has this trouble. Aimtrue, I had the same trouble when I bought my first Kimber. After 25 or 30 minutes of struggling, I thought I might have to head back to the gunshop. Man, I did not want to have to do that! Remember thinking at least the Kimber was well made.

Thanks for all the laughs everyone. :D The worst part was calling the gun shop an hour after I left there and asking if they had one.
I have not stopped searching yet, however I forgot to mention that I was in the 10000 sq.ft warehouse at work when I sent it flying. All of the walls, shelves and floor are painted light gray so needless to say a silver plug doesn't stand out.:(

prhm....thank You for being a good sport and providing a humorus thead.:)

When you find it , post the distance always wondered the potential those things have.

FWIW years ago duck hunting, buddy of mine had a mild report. So he decides to remove bbl to remove stuck wad. unscrews mag cap....gun plug sails out amidst decoys...kerpluk ! Seems he forgot to put the retainer in before putting cap on. OOPS.

Had the same thing happen with my new

Kimber Eclipse. I did not have the courage to admit it in open company. My congratulations to you. Probably makes you feel good to be in such great company. Maybe it makes you feel bad?

That's why I wear safety glasses even when cleaning my guns. I've been pinged in the face by more than one part.

The other day I found a pin that I'd lost months ago, laying right in the middle of the floor. It was the first thing I saw when I walked in the room. When I first lost it, I looked for it for days with no luck. Too bad I traded that rifle last month.
