Got me a Savage 99 that will need some work

No matter what, don't take the magazine assembly apart unless you have an octapus with a master's in mechanical engineering to help you in getting it back together.

I can't second that strongly enough. If your magazine works ok, DO NOT TOUCH IT!!!!

FLushing out with an areosol type cleaner, and then a little lube, ok, but do not take it apart, you will be sorry, promise!

Congrats for getting this old classic at a good price, and further congrats for repairing it.
 
I made the mistake of taking mine apart years ago. Couldn't leave well enough alone.

Got it apart in about 30 minutes.

Took me about two weeks to get it back together so that it worked correctly.
 
One of my best decisions was NOT to try replacing the magazine spring myself. My gunsmith spent 6 months waiting for a spring with just the right tension. I would have bubba'ed it up bad......
