GOP controls all three branches, now what?

Wish list

There are some things that GW can do without going through the whole Congress. This is in the area of appointments to various cabinet posts.

1) A pro gun Sec. of the Treasury would be nice.

2) A pro gun Attorney General is good.

3) A head of the BATF that believes in RKBA would be heavenly!!! :)

These are the things that we should be screeming for right now!!! Let GW know just where his support is. Tell him that without us, he would be out of it right now!!!! Tell him that we gave him the margin of victory that he needed, therfore we want all this stuff... for Christmas would be nice.;)

I agree M1911. A farmer with an annual income of less than 50k may easily have an estate of 2 million. 600,000 may seem like the realm of the super wealthy but many baby boomers due to 401k's will be retiring with estates on paper in the millions. Did these folks work and save in order to keep irs agents and lawyers in work or for their kids? It ain't the governments money.

I don't know much about bankruptcy law, but I believe in personal responsibility and honoring contracts. I suspect many of us would be less dependent upon easy credit if 40% of the economy wasn't drained by taxes.

I doubt that we will see tort reform on the national level but it is possible. People should be able to sue for criminal negligence. The costs of huge awards are passed onto consumers and contribute to things like the cost of health care. I heard an interesting proposal recently that suggested a hospital take out a life insurance policy on a patient upon admittance. If during the stay patient dies, the family would accept the the settlement without litigation as long as no criminal negligence had occurred. The family would be compensated quickly while the hospital holds overhead costs down. Of course the trial lawyer would get shut out of his cut. :)

I like Jesse Ventura a lot but, I saw an interview ~ 2 years
ago. He was for "waiting" periods regarding firearms. Anyone
know his current stance?
Bob

I voted against Gore. Anything positive to come out of this will be a pleasant surprise. I'm not a Republican ( or Democrat), but wish the majority well and hope that they have found a basic belief system and a backbone. Not expecting much, so easily pleased.

Re: Jesse VENTURA: It may be true that he is in favor of waiting periods; I think I have heard this as well. But he has made it clear that he understands that the 2nd Amendment "is not about duck hunting." Addditionally, he has been a holder of a CWP (I don't know if this has changed now that he is surrounded by bodyguards), something for which the antis have criticized him. His response was something along the lines of, "I'm well trained in the safe use of firearms, and I have aright to defend myself, why should anyone have a problem with that?"

Futo writes, "but not making Bill Gates pay a dime when he dies? Absurd!" Perhaps you can explain to us why this is absurd. Didn't he earn his money through hard work and genius? I, too, envy his billions, but I don't think I deserve any of them simply because I breathe the same air as him. There was a time when men like Bill Gates were revered as heroes, men who had accomplished the American dream. Now they are vilified and treated as outlaws. I think Bill Gates should pull a John Galt.

If he has no right to his money, what makes you think you have any right to your guns. True freedom is consistent. But Gore's about to talk, so I'll end this and listen.

I'm 99% certain that Jesse Ventura would refuse to run on any Constitution Party ticket. And he dropped out of the Reform Party after Pat Buchanon took it over. He might agree more ideologically on social issues with the Libertarian Party but I haven't heard anything about him trying to work with them. Plus I don't think he really is a libertarian, just an independent. Sorry, but if you're looking for a candidate who can unite the right-of-the-GOP crowd, Jesse Ventura is not your man. Jesse Helms on the other hand...if he doesn't die before then. (He's also who I first thought of when I saw Jesse.)

So, the rumor I heard about Jesse Helms is that he's using a walker and may not run for re-election because of health reasons. Anyone know if it is true?

What M1911 and Justice for All said.

Futo has fallen prey to the class warfare ploy of the left.
The Estate Tax is opressive. We need to restrict the trial lawyers. How about we change the system so that the loser pays and restrict these phony class actions lawsuits where the plaintiffs get $1.98 and the lawyers get millions. All these lawsuits do is drive up the cost of business and provide a mechanism for legal extortion.

Precisely!

Yes, it's your money and mine.

We have a cabal of Marxists [lead by the big Marxist herself, Hillary!] willing to steal the rewards of our productive labor to give to those who live in federal ghettoes and vote en bloc for Democrites.

Currently, the Klinton Administration [now that's an oxymoron of note!] is proposing the inclusion of four million [yep...4 MILLION!!!] illegal aliens on the legal immigrant roles.

This should be condemned in the strongest possible terms...and eventually in action if necessary.

If we repute the outrageous demagoguery of the nation's most infamous race-baiter and riot-promoter, Jesse Jackson, we're on the right track.

Futo Inu…. I have done a lot of estate planning and I can guarantee you that anyone with an estate of over a couple of million in liquid assets, ie.. cash, stocks etc…. they do not pay a dime in estate taxes… If you look at most of these they are in charitable remainder trusts or some other vehicle which avoids the estate tax. It is the family farm which is the one’s who get hurt by the estate tax. Sure they have a lot of assets (Land), but unless they sell it they can not get the funds to pay the estate taxes. They also don’t have the cash to pay the big boys to set up their farm to be passed down without estate taxes… heck they are having a hard enough time keeping food on the table. I do know of three families who have had to sell their ranches after being in the family for over four generations.

Hmmmmm... Futo, I have this bridge for sale...

If you actually believe that `Death Taxes' only `help?' the `rich?' then *surely* you'll also believe that I've got a `clear title' to this bridge I've got. {FROWN!}

Common... Say it `tain't so.

A little back ground here... SWMBO and I live on this *little*, actually only about 95 acres, farm here in CO. (At least *that* is the `part' that SWMBO's 7/12 undivided `interest' gives, and will give her *after* we finally can overcome the `polyticians' and get her part broken out, her of the whole 167 acres.) Now... Due to some `honest to god luck' back in 1993 we, her and the rest of her family, actually managed to `escape' the `Death Taxes'. *But* only *just barely*! (*If* both the county assesor *and* the company that was hired by the `Estate' at the time to appraise the `Estate' hadn't been as `blind' as they were and had actually even given current land values a sidelong glance the `appraised value' would have been well over $1.2 mil instead of the paltry $500 thousand they `valued' it at. [Strange thing... A little over a year and a half later when the State started requiring that assesors start assesing `property' at `reasonable market levels' the farm suddenly became worth $1.6mil!?]) *If* the `assesment' or the `appraisal' had been done using the `fair market value' at the time we were going through with all we went through *none* of us, SWMBO, myself, and her family, would be residing here today. We wouldn't have been able to begin to pay the `Death Taxes'! (Actually even today we couldn't since farming is something that *doesn't* make money. But that is another `rant'!) Today, if we sell the place as a farm, we can probably get something around $1.2mil. However, if we sell for `development', we can get closer to $3.5mil. Either way though *we* lose! First of all we are truely `cash poor' and `land rich' and will end up having to pay out anything we make in yet another tax scam... `*Capitol Gains*' tax! Frankly I believe that *any* `tax' is way too much tax but both the `Capitol Gains Tax' and the one you seem to think is so `fair?' `Estate, or "Death", Taxes' are by far the most onerous and *stifling* to those of the so-called `middle classes' and `poor'. Yeah... All the other assorted `taxes' and taxes by another name like `user fees' and such are also an affront to those of us not able to afford to have `high powered tax "advisors'', but they are also an affront to even those who *can* afford those `high powered tax "advisors"'. (They all `say' that we don't know what to do with our money, but the `gummit' does!) AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Dammit! `Government' is the *problem* *not* the `solution' and we've got *way too much*! (I concede that I do happen to also worry about my 2nd Amnd rights, too. *But* I also am very worried about *all* the others *and* the continuing encroachment into mine and my family's and friends lives, too!) And... Yep! I'm `old and cranky'!

Two more things to hope for:
- an Attorney General who will uphold and enforce the law
- fire all the US Attorneys put in by Clinton at the beginning of his term.
