Google - The anti-gun search engine

this really pissed me off. I have been using Google Adwords to promote my site for about 3 months now. I have been getting some good responses and customer leads. Today, Google suspended my account for inappropriate content. The inappropriate content directly refered to was firearms, shooting, and ammunition.

What a bunch of liberal BS. Of course, if you have a nice porn site it is welcome. :barf:

Here is part of the response I got from them:

----------------------------------------------
Campaign: 'Campaign #1,' Ad Group: 'guns for sale'
----------------------------------------------

AD TEXT:

High Mountain Hunting Sup
Quality gear at discount prices
All brands of firearms and gear
www.luvtohunt.com

Ad Status: Suspended - Pending Revision
Ad Issue(s): Unacceptable Content
~~~~~~~~~
SUGGESTIONS:
-> Content: At this time, Google policy does not permit the
advertisement of websites that contain "guns, firearms and ammunition".
As noted in our advertising terms and conditions, we reserve the right
to exercise editorial discretion when it comes to the advertising we
accept on our site.
---------------------
POLICY DEFINITIONS:
Unacceptable Content: Google believes strongly in freedom of expression
and therefore offers broad access to content across the web without
censoring search results. Please note that the decisions we make
concerning advertising in no way affect the search results we deliver.
Please note that both your ad and keywords have been suspended at this
time.
I thought about that, but then they informed me thier policy is not about the add content, but the website's content. If I want to advertise on Google, i have to remove all firearms and references to shooting. Kind of Defeats the purpose.
Good idea though!
Wow, that is really outrageous. Im suprised they return results for a quesry like "1911" that are gun related.
"Google believes strongly in freedom of expression..."
Too bad they're too effing stupid to understand that 2A
guarantees that freedom. Jeez...some folks kids.
Here was my reply after they denied an appeal. They did give me the option to continue advertising as long as I removed all website references to firearms, shooting, and ammunition.
I run a gun store. Abiding by your rules would be pointless. While Google believes in the freedom of expression, it obvious to me they no longer believe in the Constitution of the United States of America nor uphold the standards of the Second Amendment. My business is completely law abiding by federal and moral standards. I do not understand your reasoning for such a ban, nor do I understand your intent. Please close my account. I have other means for which to advertise my business. I have neither time nor patience for people who do not support ALL the freedoms granted by this Great country.
Sincerely
I had used Google Adwords for SWAT for about three weeks until these denials came thru. Then I cancelled the account on principle.
Try descriptions of the most offensive sex acts you can think....they'll let it pass. :rolleyes:
Rich-
You are dead on right with that. In googles world our guns are evil and porn is just an "expression" which should not be infringed. :barf:
Sorry guys, but I have to play the role of ...
[Devil's advocate]
Some folks are equating the advertising business side of Google with the search engine business of Google. For whatever their reasons, they don't allow advertising of firearms and I'm quite sure they don't allow advertising of any porn sites as well. That doesn't mean you can't search for either of those topics and find hundreds of references.
A good analogy is your local library. If it's like ours, they have a community bulletin board where you can sell various items. They don't allow gun sales or porn ads. That doesn't mean you can't check out a copy of "Marine Sniper" or "The Kamasutra" from the shelves of that same library.
[/Devil's advocate]
Now, just as it is their prerogative to forbid legitimate and moral sites (that doesn't necessarily include the extreme porn sites) from advertising on their pages, it is our prerogative to not use their service or buy from other legitimate dealers that do advertise on their pages. If we let other vendors know the reason why we won't be buying from them since they advertise on Google, we could double our effectiveness in this campaign.
Google is full of crap. I just did a search for ammunition and 3 adds came up on the right for Hornady, Dicks sporting goods, and Ebay. I have never actually seen a firearm or ammunition for sale at Ebay, and I dont know anything about Hornady except that when I click on the add it takes me to a page advertising ammunition, as far as Dicks its kind of wierd, I dont find any ammunition or firearms specificaly listed on the site, but I do find amunition holders...
I ran a small business a few years ago and tried to use google addwords for advertising. They are picky and a pain to deal with, on top of that they generated little return.
