Good times for 40 cal lovers!!

Two weeks ago I was searching Budsgunshop.com and they had a Kahr Mk40 for 455.00. I have a Kahr k40 that I really like so I put it on layaway. So I seen they had the pm40 with black slide for 455.00 I put it on layaway. This is a gun I have shot quite a lot. I have a good friend that owns one and I have always wanted one. These have came way down in price. I see CDNN Has HK p30 in 40 for 599.00. May have to pick one of these up also. Will be a month or so when I get both the kahrs off layaway. Then I will pursue th HK. I am liking the fact that so many people are trending back to 9mm. It's a buyers market for 40 S&W.

Agree 100% - what's even better is the used market is being flooded with 40S&W. Some dealers are listing them at really good prices. Works for me!

I think this has been the situation for a year to a year and a half. Last year, there was a glut of police trade-ins in .40 S&W in this part of the country.

I picked-up both a Sig P226 and a P229 in very good condition for between $350 to $375. This included two magazines with each. It left plenty of money on the table to buy new .357 Sig barrels for each pistol. :)

LOL!.....when will I ever shoot the other calibers I have.

Got three 40s. Two FN and a G27. Two of them have 357 Sig barrels and can be changed back to 40 S&W.

I tend to shoot those three more in the two calibers and need to shoot other calibers that I own.

mmmmmm maybe sell the 9mm and 45 acp stuff and get more 40s....Nah. then I would have to get rid of too much ammo. Sorry folks for the light hearted ness but I, too, see 40 S&W prices as compared to when I purchased mine and I let out a sigh.

I do enjoy 40 S&W and 357 Sig.

Definately a buyers market for 40 fans. Was able to pick up two P226s, police trade ins, one dak and one da about a year ago. Both in great shape at a great price.

I got a surplus Beretta 96 for around $230 a few months ago. My FiL got a surplus Glock and a Surplus S&W (both in 40 caliber) for around $300 apiece recently. I misremember which one ended up being LNIB, but they were both great deals. We are shooting a lot of 40 these days. :)

I recently acquired a Ruger SR40C because I wanted a subcompact and it was cheap.

I had gotten out of 40 after selling my M&P. At the time I didn't like the recoil.

Odd. Now even in the smaller SR40C, it's not bad to shoot at all.

:D I can highly recommend the 40 S&W cartridge .I 've had mine since H&K came out with the P7M10. Performs very well !! All steel too ! :p

I agree mete. I can also highly recommend the .357 Sig round along with the .40 S&W. All it takes is a barrel for the Sig pistols to change back between the two rounds. The magazines are even compatible with each other.

Unlike some rumors, the 357 Sig round is not difficult to reload. You simply have to use a little case lube while resizing.

I'm waiting to see how low the .40 prices go. So far I can see used Glock 22,23,27 going for around $350 on GB. That's a pretty fair price considering the used 9mm's like the 19 and 26 are $100 more.

IMO, a .40 Glock that's 100 bucks cheaper means you can buy a 9mm barrel for $100 and basically have a .40 and a 9mm for the same price as just a 9mm and you also have the option of .357 Sig later on, if that every becomes more popular.

What I'm most interested in is how low will used Charter .40 Pitbull revolvers go? If I can git muh hands on one of them for $300-350, I'd consider that a steal. Then, what about the Chiappa Rhino?

The .40 has been trashed on by keyboard warriors for years now and now that many police and federal agents are going back to 9mm due to price and alleged performance, everyone thinks the .40 is on its deathbed. Not the case if the guns and ammo start dropping in price due to supply and demand.

The .40 has been trashed on by keyboard warriors for years now...

I don't see any rational reason to trash the .40 S&W. It splits the difference between 9mm and .45 and is not downloaded, therefore it extracts maximum performance from the package. Top standard pressure loads are about 600 ft/lbs of energy.

What's not to like? Some folks will make a rivalry out of anything. I like all three rounds but if I had to drop one it would probably be .45 ACP.

I love my recently acquired Sig 229 40S&W. Its a very accurate and reliable handgun. The night sights are still good to go so I think my next purchase will be a 357sig barrel. Im not sure why everyone is trending away from this caliber. If advancements are made in ammo its usually across the board in all calibers so wouldnt the .40 benefit as well as the 9mm? It doesnt matter really, I love the .40 just as much as my 9mm's and .45's.

I was never into .40, I always felt 9mm was better rounded and "good enough".
If I felt I needed more I'd jump to 45 and skip .40 altogether.

With that said I think it's funny that .40 is dropping in demand because LE moving back to 9mm, It is not at all surprising though, look at the military guns.
I hear you can't find a sig p320 these days since they won the contract.

Not that I would know cause I don't want one.. and even if the prices are lower I still don't want a .40

Although I did have thoughts of getting a Taurus PT100 and dropping a .357 sig barrel in it, but they discontinued those a couple years ago.

The .40 has been trashed on by keyboard warriors for years now
meh, plenty of .40 fanboys was out there to counter.

Seems like when the police or large law enforcement agencies make a move or ballistic type pronouncement on what is good for them, thousands of people think this is gospel for them also, There are so many factors that go into police and LE weapons and ammo decisions that I think it's foolish to immediately think that their decision is automatically what I personally need.

I love 40 S&W cal. I have two Ruger SR40c pistols, and two CZ75B 40 S&W pistols, and these are all terrific shooters. I don't know what it is about 40 S&W, but I just plain shoot it well. And it is nice to know that you are putting a powerful round downrange with accuracy.

Just ordered the FNS-40. It comes with night sights, thumb safety (I happened to like it), and three 14 round magazines. All that for under 4 bills. They have great prices these days. This will be my 5th .40 S&W collection.

The 40 cal performance is quite good, according to the recent Lucky Gunner test data. It has more ammo choices that both penetrate and expand well. I would say bigger holes & more powerful than the 9mm.

Kahr's steel-framed pistols are fantastic. I can put a few hundred rounds through my MK9 in an afternoon without any issues. That's uncommon for a pocket 9.

With ammo shortages fresh in my mind, I'd definitely buy a K40 or MK40, and especially for that price.

I'm trying as hard as I can not to buy a P226 or maybe a USP40, but it's a fight I'm slowly losing. The only thing holding me back is how much cheaper 9mm is. I'm indifferent towards the ballistics.
