Good source for new stock

700 with PTG detachable box mag and bull barrel. The rifle has the original ADL walnut stock.
Nothing wrong with that stock but I would prefer something more along the lines of a varmint stock. I checked with boyds and they have some thumbhole style solutions.
I have done the google and found plenty of stocks, just not that "ONE" yet. I like the look of laminated wood.
Any suggestions?
 
Boyd's has a Pro Varmint stock, and it's a varmint style stock without the thumbhole. However, you'd have to inlet it for the bottom metal you want to use. You don't have to get it in black if you don't want to and will probably be the most affordable route to get a laminate stock there is.

About the fit. Wouldn't the bdl fit an ad that has the ptg magazine? I don't have access to all the parts to compare right now.
 
Don't order a stock from rifle-stocks.com, unless you're willing to wait a long time for it and do a ton of finish work on it. It took me nearly a year to get the one stock I ordered that wasn't on their bargain list, the ones on the list showed up in 5-7 business days. Their action and barrel inlet is never drop in ready, and there is a ton of extra wood that needs to be removed on the outside to finish.

As far as PT&G bottom metal fitting the BDL floor plate cut out, I don't know. More than likely there will be some minor fitting to get it right. I hope you have very sharp tools, because they won't be by the time your done finishing the inlet on a laminated stock.

I don't personally know a single person that has ever been satisfied with a Richards Microfit stock (rifle-stocks.com).
Even if they're initially impressed with exceptional figure and grain for the price that they paid (which doesn't really apply to laminate), they're almost always disappointed later on, when they find "small" problems that cause big headaches.

Example: My father had a fantastic-looking Maple stock show up, that only when he began inletting, did he discover had been broken out on the left side of the action inlet and glued back together :rolleyes: (carefully and precisely, but still the wrong repair in a bad location). He ended up having to patch the stock with a piece of walnut.
 
Man that stinks about stocks.com. The price point is certainly attractive. As usual you get what you pay for.
Any other places I should be looking or is Boyds the place?

Is it worth the money for the accu-block? Is there an advantage over simply bedding the action?
Should I be ordering a BDL stock because I added the pacific tool magazine?
 
Thanks for the help guys. I bought from stockysstocks. Non thumb hole varmint style laminate. $188 plus $24 for a pillar bedding kit. I should have all of my components in this week and hopefully I will have time to get the machining done on the receiver this week. I want to assemble it next weekend. Only thing left to get on order is glass. Wallet took a beating this week. Lol
 
I see that you've made your choice.
I hope it works out. (Even if there's a problem, I've heard that their customer service is good.)

Right here is a person extremely happy with my Richard's stock. It was for a Sako and was a special order, received the unfinished laminated stock in 12 days. Yes, the stock took some work, but since I pillar bedded and glass bedded the action, free floated and glass bedded the barrel channel, it didn't take that long to finish inletting the barreled action for that. It is very nice wood with no defects. Will make another purchase from them again.
 
I've been satisfied with what I've purchased through Richard's. I was deeply disappointed in the wait time for the one stock I ordered that wasn't in stock. I'll order from Richard's again if it fits my needs, but I never expect a perfect fit.
