Good shooting sends father of 7 away for 10 years for 2nd deg murder -used a 10mm.

I realize this is a little late, but:

With so many folks addressing the issue of his conviction being due in part to his choice of caliber, remember this; If it had been a clear-cut case of self-defense, he never would have been endicted. The fact that he was charged with second degree murder means that this was not a good shoot. A justifiable defensive shooting will not lead to charges filed against the shooter.

Civil court is another matter altogether.

On that note, I will continue to carry my 10mm Witness compact loaded with Golden Sabres. I'm not going to give up anything that might help me survive a deadly situation for fear of it's being used against me in later prosecution. The purpose of self defense is survival, period. Whatever makes my odds better is what I'll use.

I still find this whole story a bit fishy. I just didn't see the account everyone was posting lining up with the evidence. I question whether it was good shooting or settling a grudge.

sorry that this is off topic, but sumone said Federal Hydra-Shoks are wimpy? please explain, because federal is one of the best ammo I have shot, I keep Federal Hydra-Shok +Ps in my .45 and they are one of the cleanest and trouble free bullet I have ever shot

as far as the case, thats just crap, self-defense in america will always land you in jail, saying that you should've called the police, not to offend any law enforcement people on the thread, I have respect for cops, but the response time is just pathetic, by the time they get there, it would've been too late, and why let people get CCW license and buy guns(made to kill and defend) if they won't allow ppl to protect their own life, and not only that, if the U.S. was as civilized as they say they are with such a strong government, why do civilians have to carry guns to protect themselves if the police are doing theur job

Do a search ....there are plenty of posts on Hydra-shoks

They are old technology and have some performance issues

Which is not to say that they cannot be effective

FWIW, I've seen over 100 handgun-killing OMI reports. Based on what I've seen, it appears that any hollowpoint bullet rarely gets past what the docs call "moderate deformation" in real-life shootings of people. Don't want to speculate as to why, but there are many possibilities that immediately suggest themselves.

Anyway, based on this, I think worrying about "old technology" vs. new, hi-speed/lo-drag tech on hollowpoints is a little like worrying about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. :) That said, I have my favorites, just like everyone else. But I wouldn't want King_chin0 to feel like his Hydra-Shoks were far behind the pack, because - in practical reality - I really don't think they are. I'd much rather he worried about proper shot-placement and read Gray's Anatomy to determine what structures he's shooting at.
