I finally found a gun today. It is a S&W 686 .357 magnum 4" stainless. Was it a good deal at $315 with tax. He had it at $325 plus tax wanted to move it before next year. Now I have to get my permit and pick it up. :)

A good deal? sounds like that guy ripped himself off, a 686 in good condition for $315 is unheard of for me I see them go reguarly in the 500s

My brother in law and I went to the gunshop today and he bought a NIB 4" Model 686 for $429.00 out the door, which was a great price. It had a price tag of over 500 bucks on it.

I paid for mine around what 7th fleet did (though I think a bit more after tax) and I felt like I was getting a smoking deal.

It is in good shape too. The previous owner was a gun smith. You can tell it has been used but not abused. That's fine , then I won't feel bad about a scratch if I do it although I didn't see any scratchs on it. He tried to sand down the grips though to contour them and left some big sanding marks. Being a woodworker by trade that is no problem to sand it out slick and I want a rubber set for it anyway. Now tommorow I'm going to Bass Pro to buy a Savage .17hmr. It's been a good weekend.

Bass Man,
I have a 586 in 4 inch about 95% in layaway right now for $350.00 so I'd say your's is an excellent deal on a 686. This will be my first L-frame and I'm looking forward to it.

I have a Marlin Varmit in .17HMR and it's an excellent round, just a tad pricey is all.

That is an unbelivable deal. I bought mine used for $400 just a week or two ago, and I consider that to be a great price.

I guess I did ok on this like-new 686-3. The dealer had it listed for $350.00, but accepted $300.00.

A friend picked up a 4" version at another shop for $395.00, which is a more common price for a used 686 in these parts.

686's are very high where I live. They sell for way over $400.00 used, and over $500.00 new.

I bought my 6" 686 about five years ago, for $399.00 brand new!

Nice thing about 686's is that there are enough of them around that sometimes they get priced to move. I got my first 95% 686-1 for $299 OTD and giggled like a school girl all the way home. :D
Nice gun. Enjoy!

P.s. Liekdmy first one so much I grabebd a 6" Hunter model a year latter at well less than $400 too :)

I decided to start 2005 out with a BANG also and bought 2 new guns yesterday at a local FFL shop that was on the last day of a month-long "no sales tax added" sale. Worked out to be about 10% off. Picked up a NIB Colt Commander .45 cal. and a NIB stainless S&W 686-6 2.5 inch barrel .357 magnum with Hogue grips. The revolver netted out to cost about $420.00 all in. I've read a lot here on revolver fixed sights being the better choice for CCW but I absolutely fell in love with the sight picture on the S & W adjustable ones. Any IWB holster suggestions that would be kind to these sights and also has anyone had good experience with successfully carrying adjustable sight wheel guns?

I just bought a NIB 6" 686 six shot for $400 out the door. Took it my buddy's and fired about 50 rounds really happy with it. This is my first handgun. Now I want to but a ccw really like the S&W airlites and ultralites any suggestions?

I paid $300 back in Nov. for a really good condition 4" 686 (no dash), from my brother-in-law. I consider that to be practically like stealing it!

I paid $559.99 plus tax for my 686-6 that I just picked up today (I live in the NW Chicago Suburbs). My first centerfire handgun. Can't wait to take it to the range tomorrow! :)

I found a 686-2 about 6 months ago for 300.00. It was my first revolver. Very nice gun. Have since picked up a 29-8 mountain gun to keep it company. I think I'm addicted!!!
